Theo Moraes – ABAP Developer

T

Our freelancer of the week is Theo Moraes. And with his comment “To be a freelancer means you don´t have to waste any time going to work and back every day” he reminds us of yet another pleasant advantage of being a freelancer. However, right now the ABAP Developer from Brazil cannot enjoy a few more minutes of sleep every morning because he is also working at an IT company. Therefore, it is now time to say: Rise and shine dear Theo Moraes…

1) First off, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Theo Moraes. I have been an ABAP developer for about nine years and also have management skills. I am from Brazil and am currently looking for SAP projects. I have been a freelancermap member for two weeks now.

2) If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar?

Easy going, determined and reliable

3) What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a freelancer?

I decided to freelance because I wanted to get experience in working with people from different countries and to improve my knowledge. I am thinking about freelancing full time but until I will find a suitable project I will keep trying to freelance besides my usual work. I have only worked in companies before I started with the freelancing.

4) What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide?

ABAP developments in general, technical specifications, debugs to help the functional team to find errors, definition of processes, PMO meetings and coordinating the ABAP team. I am working mainly with the modules SD, MM, WM, FICO and PS. And a bit with HR, PP and QM.

5) Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess?

Not really. When I need some help I usually enter my questions in forums or ask my colleagues. The SAP world is like a family, everybody is always very keen to help each other out.

6) Now tell us, how do you find new clients that are interested in your services?

I am pretty new to this world to be honest. I am currently only using freelancermap.com. I have tried LinkedIn and vacancies.com but with no success yet.

7) What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network?

I am impressed with freelancermap.com. Being there for two weeks, I have already had some responses. I am hoping it will further broaden my horizon.   In my vision I think it would help if the projects would have a language filter which helps the recruiter to select which languages are acceptable or mandatory for the project. And If I don´t have the language skill it wouldn´t even show up in my search list.

8) How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special?

I am very reliable, hands on and I learn things very quickly. My profile shows that I am an ABAP developer with other skills too such as html, php java and even graphical knowledge. It shows that I am not just stuck with ABAP. And I also have management skills and I am able to manage my own activities without supervision.

9) What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market?

  • Olhar digital (a Brazilian blog)
  • ABAP zombies
  • SAP sdn

10) Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?

To be a freelancer means you don´t have to waste any time going to work and back every day. However it comes with a lot more responsibilities. You must be able to manage your own activities without losing the attention to TV, radio, social media or friends that would come to visit you in the middle of the day. It is needed to focus on work as if you were at a company and you have to be able to deliver the job as quickly as possible. It can be very comfy but also very tricky to be a freelancer…
