Razvan Coca – Linux C++ Developer

R

“I find a couple of hours of daily walking are a major productivity boost.” Our today’s interviewee Razvan Coca is a Linux C++ Developer. Originally he started out as a Senior Researcher at The National Institute of Material Physics in Bucharest. After working as a Software Developer for a few years, he now enjoys the advantages of being a freelancer and puts all his productivity in realizing his clients’ projects and implementing some of his own ideas…

1) First off, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Razvan Coca. I’m from Bucharest, Romania. I am a Linux C++ developer with a physics degree. I usually do networking and protocols-related jobs as a freelancer. I also do algorithm-related jobs and code for physics simulations.

I’ve been freelancing for 6 months.

2) If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar?
My freelancer profile on Freelancermap can be found through searching for “freelancermap linux c++”. Other searches that would point towards me are: mql4py, sFSMlib, asio-codegen, xmm-sum

3) What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a freelancer?
The startup I was working for the last year went out of business. At the same time I had some ideas that I wanted to see working. Freelancing provided a flexible balance between implementing my ideas and work for a living.

4) What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide?
My clients asked for Linux/Windows C/C++ code. Topics were: medical applications and protocols, kernel-level network configuration in Linux, physics code, data mining/classifiers, storage.

5) Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess?
I didn’t ask other freelancers to work for me yet. I might do so, when I’ll have a product that is popular enough to need many features added quickly to it.

6) Now tell us, how do you find new clients that are interested in your services?
I only used freelancing websites so far and I’ve been contacted for help every now and then.

7) What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network?
Freelancermap has a clean/clear interface, and is full of jobs posted by serious clients. Not all of them are remote-work positions but jobs descriptions are very accurate and professional.

8) How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special?
I have a long work experience in telecom industry, a strong academic background, a keen interest in solving problems in a proper way and a bit of imagination. I still like math and it looks that I learn more of it every day.

9) What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market?
I enjoy reading DrDobbs Journal, checking isocpp.org site regularly, watching cppcon presentations or boostcon presentations. I try to learn from the best.

10) Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?
I find a couple of hours of daily walking (with or without sunshine) are a major productivity boost.
