Luis Faus – freelance Art & Design Director

L

Creative minds need space for reflection and ideation! And maybe this is also one of the main reasons why a lot of designers, illustrators, writers and artists rather work as a freelancer than being restrained in a small and sticky office, with grimly bosses on their back, unwanted projects and disturbing colleagues.

We at freelancermap.com conducted an interview with Luis Faus, freelance artist, design director and admittedly freethinker. Born in Spain, studied in England, Luis Faus nowadays provides his worldwide clients with wonderful design in illustrations from his ‘more tropical’ adopted country Thailand! An interview with Luis Faus…

1) First off, can you tell us bit about yourself?
My name is Luis Faus. I am an art & design director. Been freelancing on and off for around twelve years.

Originally born and raised in Pamplona, Spain. Though at the age of seventeen I left my country to live, study and work in London, England. Which after 8 and half years, I decided to move somewhere more ‘tropical’ and moved to Bangkok, Thailand; were I currently live for five years now.

2) If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar?
Brand Innovation, Digital 3D Design & Illustration.

3) What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a freelancer?
Over the years I worked at a variety of companies while freelancing, however, the time management and income was the real issue. When I started freelancing full time I felt more alive, inspirited, challenged and comfortable than by working on a 9 to 6 desk job. Not to mention that by freelancing, I am able to triplicate the income that I would do on a normal job.

It also gives me the freedom that I need to explore the world at its fullest. Gaining and living new experiences recharges the creative mind.

4) What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide?
I have worked in multi role design projects ranging most of the spectrum of the Arts & Design Professional field. I like a good challenge thus I have never stopped learning new art and design techniques to develop myself professionally.

I provide to my clients (apart from wide Experience, High-end Design and Talent) an all rounder service ranging from:

  • Logo Design & Branding
  • Print Design
  • Web Design
  • App/ UI design
  • Packaging & Product Design
  • Marketing Design
  • Social Media Design
  • Digital 3D Design
  • Jewelry Design
  • Architectural visualization
  • Product Visualization
  • Interior Design
  • Photography
  • Art & Illustration
  • Voice over

5) Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess?
I do, mainly in the programming spectrum. Even though I have learned programming languages as well, as a ‘visual guy’ I am not able to stay programming for long hours as it hurts my sight.

Also I have a network of design professionals whom I have work with or know personally that have my full trust engaging with my own clients.

6) What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network?
I only just recently got invited to join. So far has been great, very personal, ‘homey’ feel yet very professional. I am quite excited to start working with freelancermap.

7) How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special?
Not many people – to my knowledge – posses a so vast range of skills. Also working with a cross-cultural clientèle and audience affords me a unique palate of skills to meet a host of professional needs and expectations.

8) What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market?
As top three sites that I visit every day to keep up with the IT development and innovation technologies are:

  • Smashingmagazine.com
  • Designweek.co.uk
  • creativebloq.com

9) Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?
For the readers, freelancers and clients alike I would like to share a piece of advice given to me by a wise man which has helped me over the years:

Never give up on your noble dreams.”

Also I would like to invite you all to visit my extensive portfolio website, with over 200 completed projects (those without NDA’s) at http://luisfaus.com where you can see exactly what I do/provide.

Most importantly, if you like what you see & need high-end, visually innovative designs for your business or products; please don’t hesitate to contact me.
