William Rufino – Web Developer

W

William Rufino ruled up the field from behind. Six to seven years ago his freelancing carrier started a bit different from the ones of other freelancers. William Rufino became a freelancing Web Developer even before starting his studies as he needed some money. Based on his knowledge from technical high school he developed his own skills in smaller projects for friends. Nowadays he can pay his tuition fees by freelancing full-time for international clients. Curtain up for the likable young freelancer from Brazil!

1) freelancermap: Firstly, can you tell us bit about yourself!
My name is William Horta Rufino da Silva, I´m a brazilian Web Developer and Entrepreneur, currently I am a grad student, looking for my masters degree by the end of the year. I am also partner at Sem Dúvida, a digital marketing training company, where we are going to have both online and face to face courses.

I have been freelancing since the beginning of my developer career about 6-7 years ago, even before I started college, as I studied in what we call a technical high school here in Brazil, where I had both programming and normal disciplines.

2) freelancermap: If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar?
“web developer”, “computer science” and “semantic web”.

3) freelancermap: What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a freelancer?
I had the opportunity to start freelancing as I needed some money and had some friends who needed my services, and I started doing small stuff and as my skills got better I started looking for freelancing elsewhere, like the internet. Right now I freelance fulltime, since it´s the better way for me to earn money and also work on my master thesis.

I have worked in many different companies, and even owned a digital agency before, but I´ve always been a freelancer even when I worked full time for other companies.

4) freelancermap: What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide?
Most of the times I work with development and search marketing for my clients, I work with PHP and Python. I provide full stack development as I get many offers to migrate from shared hosts do VPS or dedicated servers when my clients start to grow.

5) freelancermap: Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess?
I use lots of services from designers when I need a design job, I have my friends in the area so finding other professionals is not hard for me.

6) freelancermap: Now tell us, how do you find new clients that are interested in your services?
I use both my website, which is ranked well for some keywords in Brazil and also Linkedin and mouth to mouth work very well to find freelancing jobs.

7) freelancermap: What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network?
So far I like freelancer map, I did not get any job on it yet but I just started my profile, the only problem so far is that many of the jobs that I found they required an EU passaport.

8) freelancermap: How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special?
I consider myself different not only because of my skills, but because I only get jobs that I know I can do. One very common thing here in Brazil about freelancers is that they often get more jobs than they can get done, which can hurt the trust of clients on freelancers.

9) freelancermap: What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market?
Right now I am reading The learn start up book, and two websites that I read to stay up to date are TechCrunch and Search Engine Land.

10) freelancermap: Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?
My only advice is to keep it serious, do not promise what you cannot do.

Thank you 🙂
