All about freelancing: Why You Should Consider Taking the Leap in 2017

A

The freelancing movement gained a lot of momentum over the last years and the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down in 2017. Are you considering jumping into freelancing this year? Maybe you just want to gain some extra money with part-time projects on the side or maybe you are thinking about taking the leap to a full-time freelancing career. No matter what your personal motivation is, in this article we tell you why you should freelance in 2017!

1) Getting started is easier than ever

There is a ton of literature out there that helps you to acquire new skills and gives tips on how to set up your own business. Apart from books especially addressed for freelancers, blog posts also offer valuable advice for anyone who is thinking about starting out as a freelancer.

To get started you can check out our Step by Step guide to starting your freelance career or look for interesting articles in our blog. We address different issues that freelancers normally have to face such as: how to set up your rates, how to negotiate a raise, how to write killer proposals, etc.

2) Co-working spaces are popping up everywhere

One of the biggest downsides of freelancing is the lack of social interactions. Initially freelancers were working alone from home and although this has a lot of benefits, the lack of social contact was a major obstacle. Even if we don’t think much about it, social interactions are crucial for our well-being and shouldn´t be neglected. And this is where co-working spaces come into play. They are designed to offer a productive working environment for freelancers and present a great opportunity to get in touch with other professionals and network. That means goodbye loneliness! These spaces are becoming more and more popular, so you sure will find one close to you (if not now, very soon!).

3) Companies keep creating new freelance opportunities

The corporate world is continuously embracing remote work. Deloitte’s 2016 Global Human Capital Trends study even found that 51 percent of global executives plan to increase the use of flexible and independent workers in the next three to five years. With more jobs opportunities on the market and an increasingly growing freelancing workforce, it´s safe to say that freelancing isn´t a niche anymore and that the freelancer movement will soon turn into a regular part of today`s workforce. As more people and companies understand the benefits of working with external professionals, it gets easier for you to find a project that fits your skill set.

4) It’s so exciting

We regularly ask our freelance community how they feel about freelancing. At the end of 2016 we decided to ask them the following question: “What is the most exciting part about freelancing?”. The answers were so inspiring and motivational that we simply had to share them with all of you!

Did they convince you? Are you now excited to take the leap too?
