There are many IT infrastructure jobs available for freelancers, from junior entry level to senior management positions. When it comes to the IT world, freelance projects may involve a range of different skills, roles and responsibilities, including infrastructure analysis, system modification or technical support. A systems analyst assesses the suitability of an IT system and may design or re-design modifications. A technician is oriented towards supporting users with technical information and know-how. At the management level, an IT professional will have input on issues such as budgeting, new software and staffing in addition to strictly IT oriented matters. Any of these roles may also be combined.
Types of IT Infrastructure projects
One niche of freelancers that's in high demand concerns System administration - often called "sysadmin". The system administrator is directly responsible for the upkeep and smooth running of entire multi-user computer systems. This includes tasks like the installation of system-wide software, IT security and setting up user accounts as well as data storage systems. Other roles in IT infrastructure are much more specific and may entail detailed knowledge of programming languages. SQL projects involve relational database management systems (RDBMS) or relational data stream management systems (RDBSMS). Oracle projects involve information management tools that are used widely throughout the corporate world, including among many Fortune 500 companies. Freelance projects may include one or more of these elements and may be offered on a one-time or longer term basis.
