Description

Summary
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs plant mechanical equipment for all areas of the plant in an effort to improve reliability and minimize production downtime.
  • Works with direction from supervision as necessary to perform highly accurate work.
  • As a member of the Maintenance Team, required to interface with all departments including: Engineering (Process and Project), Production, Shipping, and the Laboratory.

Duties
  • Performs testing, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance work on all site mechanical equipment.
  • Checks, overhauls, repairs, rebuilds, assembles, and installs mechanical equipment.
  • Works with outside vendors and/or contractors to acquire necessary information on the installation and repair of plant equipment.
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Assist with the development and revision of PM's to improve equipment reliability.
  • Utilizes drawings, P&ID's, and equipment records to perform efficient and accurate work. Also assists with the maintenance of this technical information.
  • Operates both hand and shop tools as required. 5. Follows the maintenance process requirements, which includes utilizing the maintenance management software (SAP) to identify equipment problems, obtain parts, document findings, capture repair history, etc.
  • As a member of the Maintenance Team, performs mechanical, electrical, or instrument tasks as needed to improve reliability and reduce production downtime.
  • Works with site Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to make recommendations and implement solutions for process control, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
  • Assists with management of spare parts by identifying the need for spares, obtaining necessary technical data to maintain spares, and properly documenting the use of spares.
  • Follows safety rules and good housekeeping practices and promotes their observance in the performance of job duties

  • Participates on the Emergency Response and Confined Space Rescue teams.
  • Makes installations, repairs, and adjustments on a large variety of chemical plant equipment where care is necessary to avoid product loss and/or equipment damage.
  • Performs repair work on equipment handling corrosive, flammable, or toxic substances.
  • Carelessness could result in serious injury to self or others. Work above others could cause injury to others by dropping tools and materials.
  • Works alone or as a member of a crew, depending on the nature of the work involved.
  • Provides technical assistance to the other Maintenance Mechanics and/or other E&I Technicians.
SKILLS:

Skills
  • High school education or equivalent and one of the following: 1. Two (2) year Associates Degree in a related Industrial Mechanics Program 2. Five (5) year total of education, training, and/or experience (which the following elements may be used to satisfy this requirement:
  • Registered apprenticeship in a mechanical related field
  • Academic degree (or equivalent) in a related technology area, to a maximum of four years
  • Related work experience

ON-THE-JOB EXPERIENCE
  • Must be able to use tools and testing equipment, and to perform mathematical calculations characteristic to the trade.
  • Must be familiar with chemical processes and Technical Standards.
  • Requires four to five years to become proficient.
