Technical Author- Defence, Technical Author, EAGLE Database, Maintenance

A Technical Author with Defence, Technical Author, EAGLE Database and Maintenance skills/experience is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Dorset.

Our defence client has an exciting contract opportunity in which they require a Technical Author to work within their within Technical Documentation team.

Overview of the Technical Author contract role

  • To produce/update DMs in Descriptive, Procedural or IPD schemas for the operator/maintainer.
  • To prepare maintenance task data in the EAGLE LSAR.
  • To update existing data sets, as necessary.
  • To provide information to the Tech Pubs Manager to assist in the preparation of estimates and progress reports.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Liaising with project SMEs, particularly the ILS function, to scope, structure and generate data sets in support of the Falcon system.
  • Preparing and maintaining DMs in support of Project delivery milestones.
  • Ensuring the content, style, accuracy, completeness and configuration management of the DMs and their compliance to the applicable standards.
  • Liaising with other sites, customers and partners including if needs be travelling to other UK sites.
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting work progress to ensure efficient execution of the tasks on time and within budget.

Key skills required for the Technical Author

  • Conversant with the requirements and stipulations of ASD 1000D, Def-Stan 00-60 and JSP 886.
  • Experience in working with XML/SGML DM coding structures and a CSDB environment.
  • Expertise in a wide range of authoring software applications, specifically Arbortext CSDB for S1000D, EAGLE LSAR and CAD.
  • Several years' experience in the production and maintenance of user documentation in both a military and a commercial environment.
  • Managing tasks to time and budget.
  • Self-motivated and organised individual.

The role is based in Christchurch, Dorset - commutable from Salisbury, Fordingbridge, Ringwood, Lymington, Ferndown, Bournemouth and Poole with excellent access from Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester.
