We are WhatRunsWhere – a leader in online advertising intelligence and headquarters in Toronto. We collect and create insights from a myriad of data to help businesses buy ads more effectively. Our platform has been a valuable tool for over five years and we’re looking for someone to help us take it forward. We’re predominantly using Python for our backend services, along with Spark, Hadoop, Elasticsearch, and PostgreSQL. We also have production components written in Clojure and Go. Our data pipeline runs on AWS with infrastructure defined in Terraform and deployment automated through Ansible.At WhatRunsWhere, data is the lifeblood of our company. As a Data Engineer, you will be the steward of that data, ensuring that our ever-growing collection of advertising intelligence is clean, scalable, and well organized. Your responsibilities will include managing the modeling of our data and the expansion of our data pipeline. You will participate in the deployment of these services to AWS and have the opportunity to truly round out your skillset.
This position will enjoy a great deal of autonomy to conduct your own research, evaluate and gain exposure to new tools, suggest potential new product features, and provide custom reporting to support business decisions. Qualifications & Experience:
– Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
– Existing knowledge of the Python ecosystem (packaging, PEP8, deployment best practices)
– Proven track record of architecting, building and operating scalable systems
Bonus points:
– Experience with Clojure, Scala, or other functional languages
– Experience with Go
– Experience with machine learning and large data sets
– Experience with AWS. We use S3, RDS, EMR, ELB and EC2 extensively
