Description

Position: Sr. Server Administrator

Location: Columbia, SC

Duration: 12+ Months

Summary:

  • Prepares source installation software for integration with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp, as well as physical workstations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Request security scans for new software, leverage AppDNA to provide data for application virtualization decisions, package software, test software to validate code/unit stage of deployment

Skill Set

  • Citrix AppDNA, Caphyon Advanced Installer, Wise Package Studio, AutoIt, as well as Scripting or previous experience with other software packaging tools.

Daily Responsibility:

  • Prepares source installation software for integration with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp, as well as physical Workstation as needed. Request security scans for new software, leverage AppDNA to provide data for application virtualization decisions, package software, test software to validate code/unit stage of deployment.

  • Prior Software Packaging and/or Scripting experience.

Complete Description:

  • Review documentation to obtain software packaging requirements.
  • Download raw/source software from location the Analyst has placed the fully scanned software and capture the software installation and any customized settings.
  • Utilize the software packaging tools (ie, Wise, Advance Installer, and AutoIt) to build an automated software installation solution (package)
  • Create custom scripts/programs when applications will not work in an environment.
  • Work with customers and/vendors to develop software that will work in the environment.
  • Build Citrix Images to apply patches and software.
  • Coordinate the assessment, research, and activities to correct any assigned defects.
  • Deploy software packages to test images including patches, software updates, and new software.
  • Coordinate department, SME and other requirements estimates in support effort.
  • Assist Incident Management with troubleshooting and resolution of production issues.
  • Communicate with various Application areas to obtain information about the software being packaged.
  • Perform on-line research for best practices for the deployment of a given piece of software.
  • Perform Unit Testing of the software package prior to providing for internal testing and customer testing.
  • Maintain software file shares when adding newly approved software to the production environment.
  • Document any special requirements, dependencies associated with the build (included in Test Plan and/or OneNote); communicate information to Analyst.
  • Notify the Analyst if additional information or access is needed during the package development.
  • Update multiple Software Repositories as needed
  • Updates knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in server administration technology.
  • Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation. Provides feedback on commonly encountered problems and misunderstandings to enhance user documentation and/or training programs etc. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
  • Address vulnerabilities within audit-mandated time frames. Ensure software/server compliance with audit requirements. Participates in continuous review and remediation to ensure that processes meet changing business unit conditions.
  • 20% Administers use, capacity and performance of server systems. Focuses on multiple aspects of server operations across multiple platforms. Works with end users and vendors to resolve server issues.
  • Upgrades and configures server devices from multiple vendors.
  • 20% Maintains effective relationships with external suppliers to ensure appropriate levels of support. Schedules, plans, and performs system upgrades, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
  • 20% Confers with users to resolve problems affecting server performance. Validates and adjusts server configuration as needed. Generates server utilization/trending/error reports as requested. Observes and controls the status and performance of all components of server/system facilities.
  • 20% Maintains control of server devices. Control access to, and authorization level of devices. Maintains effective security/backup and disaster recovery processes and systems. Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations as needed.
  • 10% Address vulnerabilities within audit-mandated time frames. Ensure server compliance with audit requirements. Participates in continuous review and remediation to ensure that processes meet changing business unit conditions.
  • 5% Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation. Provides feedback on commonly encountered problems and misunderstandings to enhance user documentation and/or training programs etc. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
  • 5% Updates knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in server administration technology.
