Description

We are looking for a configuration engineer to work for our client in Devonport for initial 3 months contract duration. The primary function of the role is to assist in the upkeep of Datum Pack information for In-Service submarines. The role will range from supporting the update of technical information such as drawings, photos and databases, undertaking technical queries utilising the information contained in the Datum Packs to undertaking validation of equipment installed on vessels during maintenance periods.

Duties may include:-

Upkeep and control of First Level Master documents ensuring archive copies are maintained.

Ensure control and maintenance of databases utilised for the allocation of Fittings, Pipes and Bulkhead Penetration numbers.

Ensure the data capture of First Level information pertaining to work packages undertaken on all classes of Submarine for supply to and approval by Design Authority Warship Support (DAWS).

Maintain, update and distribute First Level documents for internal and external customers.

Update First Level Area Diagrams' on completion of work packages.

Update Registers.

Ensure data capture of Fitting information pertaining to work packages undertaken on Submarines in order to maintain/update BDC and SDD ship fit databases.

Update the SSDD database with new information captured during work packages for configured ships.

Utilise Drawing Management System (DMS), Submarine Definition Database (SDD) and Digital Image Processor (DIP) for the control and issue states of Submarine Datum Pack drawings in conjunction with AutoCAD/Documentum.

Utilise the Surface Ship Definition Database (SSDD) for the control of issue states and applicability's of Surface Ship Datum Pack drawings and/or obtaining data on fitted equipment.

Act as a focal point for valve and cable number allocation for configured ships.

Complete process of Microfilm Distribution.

Load drawings into Documentum for update and enhancement where required

Experience

An understanding of configuration management principles is desirable.

The applicant will require naval systems experience and while not essential, it is desirable that this experience be based around submarine systems.

All work is undertaken using computer software and therefore the applicant should be familiar with the Microsoft office suite. Knowledge of AutoCAD is also desirable but training of the successful candidate will be provided on this and other bespoke software.

Academic: The post holder is required to hold an ONC or equivalent engineering academic qualification with suitable Design Office experience through the lower grades following a 4 year engineering apprenticeship.
