Description

One of the major UK construction and infrastructure companies is looking to appoint a Technical Lead Engineer with a strong experience of large-scale, complex Electrical system design in nuclear establishments. This is an exciting opportunity to join the multibillion pound project delivering new built nuclear power station in England.

Role purpose:

To form part of a team of electrical engineers, based in France ( Paris or Tours) one week in four, with the three subsequent weeks based in Bristol, tasked with the development and resolution of the engineering requirement associated with the main cabling contract for the new nuclear power station.

The main duties of the role are to support in the delivery of the design and to integrate first hand constructability, operability and maintainability in to the design and PDMS 3D model.

Duties will include the review and interpretation of the client's specifications. Provision of advice on the compliance with UK CDM regulations and the 'constructability' of the cable containment design developed by the Client's design team and value engineering via the project 3D PDMS model. All design and engineering activities will be carried out under strict Quality Assurance requirements. Duties will also include cooperation and coordination with the Client, his design consultants, the design subcontractors and members of the supply chain.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities will include:

  • Support the client's designer with the identification of technical risk (design, erection, commissioning )
  • Participate in design review before the D2 (civil design freeze) milestone
  • Support the designer to mitigate the technical risk
  • Support the designer with the 3D Model update based on supply chain feedback (does not include modelling)
  • Participate in CDM and Constructability review meetings
  • Participate in discussions and challenge the layout with regard to constructability, operability and maintainability
  • Support the client's design team with the requirements to ease the component erection
  • Maintain a collaborative attitude to maximize cooperation and shared learning with the other members of the Electrical Engineering team and the Client.
  • Support Electrical Engineering team in delivering the project tasks on time and within budget
  • Establishment and maintenance of both the extensive cable containment network and the cable routing requirements in strict compliance with the Client specification and the French nuclear installation rules.
  • Liaise with supply chain to develop solutions where required
  • Produce a report following the review of each area (building level)

Ideal candidate should have the following skills and experience:

  • Working knowledge of CDM 2015, designer's duties and an overall knowledge of site safety
  • Use of quality management systems appropriate to a nuclear installation
  • Innovative and proactive approach to engineering issues
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of constructability and value engineering reviews
  • Thorough knowledge of products available in the market place to improve/enable constructability and value engineering
  • HNC/HND in electrical engineering - essential
  • Membership of a professional body such as the IET is preferred
  • Experience of UK power station design and/or construction
  • Experience working within highly regulated industries
  • Experience in clarification, compliance and implementation of standards (ie BS, BS EN, IEC and client specific)
  • Experience of extensive cable systems involving significant numbers of cables, associated levels of cable containment plus the complexities of cable segregation and system commissioning
  • Experience of working with 3D CAD models for coordination and constructability reviews
  • Experience of site installations in order to identify and address both installation issues and opportunities at the design stage
  • Demonstrable ability for problem solving
  • Knowledge of NEC3 contract terms and conditions
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidiscipline and multinational design team environment
  • Ability to work to tight project deadlines
  • Proactive attitude, adaptable approach and good communication skills are essential
  • An ability to speak French would be a great advantage, but not essential

Working arrangements:

  • 25% of working time in France ( Paris or Tours)
  • 75% of working time in Bristol
