Quantity Surveyor - Highways
Warwickshire - 6 month contract - March 2017 Start
A fantastic opportunity for an experienced/intermediate Quantity Surveyor has arisen with one of the UK's leading infrastructure companies, to work on a 6 month contract. This is predominantly an NEC Option C environment.
Brief:
Being responsible for various small to medium highways maintenance projects as directed from pre start to final account stage. Assisting the rest of the commercial team as instructed with various QS duties.

- Work with supply chain and partner relationships which add value and are complementary with our in house offer.
- Assist with estimates for external business
Core Action
- Ensure that they are kept up to date on all new legislation and best practice thinking and researching these where necessary
- Initiate invoicing of clients for works completed - on time and in accordance with company requirements
- Resolve commercial disputes at the appropriate level
- Assist in producing financial and management reports
- Providing information for bid/proposal submissions, such as outputs, spend profiles etc
- Participate in dialogue and presentation activity with prospective clients in order to increase propensity to work with the organisation
- Measuring, valuing and paying subcontractors.
- Liaising with Operations Teams to advise on the correct subcontract and supplier for the schemes
Functional Responsibilities
- Keep abreast of industry and competitive developments
- Act as an individual performer or part of a team as part of internal, or external customer engagements.
- Support the Business Development process
- Work with Business Development teams when required and assist in the production and development of bid documents
- Work with financial and commercial teams as required to ensure solutions are properly priced, costed and commercially managed.
- Assist with month end reporting requirements including WIP on their areas of the contract
- Work with the SQS to manage the subcontractors - payment and noticing (withholding) and assisting in accrual calculations. On smaller contracts managing the accrual process.
- Reviewing the risk register for the contract and assisting in its compilation. Input into the review of the risk and opportunities reconciliation (versus tender allowances)
How you work and our expectations
Knowledge -
- Able to manage commercial and contractual arrangements associated with their contracts; identifies areas and calls on assistance where necessary; knowledge of the differences between their contract and the standard contract
- Taking part responsibility for cash flow on their contract.
- Membership of recognised professional body or in process of applying for same
- Able to negotiate with client at appropriate level to agree variations and project costs/value
- Suitable knowledge of the highways maintenance business - contracts and subcontracts.
- Understand the process for financial applications to the client; input to same
- Knowledge of the risks identified for their contract and ability to advise where these may be compromised.
- Understanding of the Method of Measurement for Highway Works (or alternative for their particular contract)
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Excellent use of Microsoft Package Skills
