Description

Linux and VMware Systems Administrator

As an experienced Linux and VMware Systems Administrator you will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems, hardware, software, and related infrastructure.

The core responsibility of the role will be to maintain and further develop the Linux infrastructure and support 2nd/3rd level Linux related incidents. You will have excellent knowledge of Linux in Large Scale Enterprise, Managed Services and/or Internet hosting environments. You will also be responsible for supporting and managing the ongoing design and build of the virtual environment.

Tasks

  • Design, build, configure, manage and support a hosted multi-server infrastructure using Linux and VMware
  • Testing, debugging and troubleshooting of platform level problems
  • Working alongside application development teams, supporting and advising on best practice to maintain

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a demanding 24x7 high availability environment
  • In-depth knowledge of RedHat Enterprise Linux versions 5, 6 and 7
  • Configuring, deploying and managing a virtual server infrastructure using VMware, Vsphere etc
  • Monitoring an enterprise infrastructure, log aggregation, SNMP traps and monitoring software
  • Monitoring and benchmarking performance for OS and storage platforms
  • Strong Scripting skills
  • Understanding of data centre operations
  • Online payments or financial transaction expertise is highly desirable
  • Familiar with Microsoft server platform and Citrix a strong plus
  • Java infrastructure components - Tomcat etc

Experience with development tools - git, svn, packaging tools (dpkg, rpm), etc.
