Director of Communications; London; 6 months; £800/day

My client a well known public sector organisation is looking to recruit a Director of Communications for a 6 month contract in London.

The Director of Communications has responsibility for:
*Communications and marketing activity, with oversight and professional leadership of all communications to ensure effective use of digital media and cost effective marketing solutions are put in place
*Providing advice and practical solutions for managing the reputation of the Department, dealing proactively with politically sensitive issues quickly
*Building a strong external communications network across a very wide range of stakeholders including government and the wider public sector
*Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with journalists and other media representative to ensure the clients messaging is given appropriate priority
*The development of a joined up approach and consistency of communications, including improved prioritisation of communications and marketing efforts and resource
*Developing working relationships with other Government Departments
*Providing strong dynamic leadership
*Developing the communications strategy for the central Department and its Agencies, including the development of a social and new media strategy, as well as full range of traditional media to support the Governments 'Digital by Default' strategy
*Developing and implementing a group operating model for communications teams across the central Department and its Agencies that maximises the effective use of communications resources.

Experience Required
*The Director of Communications will also be required to attend meetings of the Department's Executive Committee on an ex officio basis.
*A successful track record of leading a communications function in a very large and complex organisation with a politically sensitive environment, in either the public or private sectors; Experience of building an end to end view of communications delivery that takes account of both proactive and reactive approaches;
*A successful track record of media relations, with experience of handling a wide range of issues across traditional and digital channels

Clearance Level Required:
*BPSS (DS) + SC (highly desirable) - If candidate is not SC cleared he/she should be eligible and willing to apply if offered
