QA Test Engineer

Duration: 6 months (Daily Rate Contractor)

Location: Cork, Ireland

My client is seeking a QA Test Engineer to join their team on a contractual basis. This position has been created as a direct result of their success and growth. This is a great opportunity to join one of the country's largest software development organisations who specialise in Architecting, developing and integrating custom .NET and Java application. My client provide consultancy and leading edge software solutions for a wide variety of US, EU and UK based clients in the insurance, healthcare, retail and public sector markets. Committed to Cork having operated here since the late 1990's and employing close to 200 people, my client employs a wide range of technologies including Mobile (iOS, Android, Windows), Java/J2EE (with Struts, Spring, Hibernate, Apache Tomcat), Oracle 9i, Microsoft ASP and ASP.NET, C# and C++.

Reporting directly to the Test Lead, the successful candidate will:

  • Create comprehensive test scripts that cover all aspects of functionality
  • Liaise with Business Analysts and Business Users where requirements are unclear
  • Execute system test plans and regression test plans within agreed timescales and standards
  • Test complex areas of application and use business knowledge to determine if functionality is correct
  • Investigate and Document defects in a defect-tracking database and verify resolution to ensure prompt closure of all defects.
  • Work closely with the development team to ensure timely resolution of defects
  • Create and run automated tests and report results and metrics to management
  • Ensure that all assigned test tasks are run to agreed schedules and to an acceptable level of quality
  • Clearly articulate and communicate project testing status, and red/yellow flags, which might interfere with the achievement of project milestones
  • Contribute to the development of functional, regression, performance and load/stress test suites and adhere to the test methodologies used within the company.
  • Assist in the day-to-day Test Team functions
  • Keep abreast of testing tools and techniques
  • Mentor members of the development team so that they gain an understanding and working knowledge of the test process including defect tracking, test methodologies, automated test tools and release procedures
  • Be competent in the use of test automation tools to maximise productivity during the regression testing and performance testing phases of the project

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant 3rd level qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years system testing experience
  • Strong experience with Web based testing
  • Strong testing background expected with experience writing test plans and test procedures
  • Experience with Regression, Integration and System level test execution
  • Experience with Test Automation Tools, Visual Studio Team System (Test Edition), HP Quick Test Professional, Selenium or similar tools.
  • Experience of performance testing
  • Knowledge of load testing tools, LoadRunner, Grinder or similar.
  • Experience in the use of Defect Tracking tools.
  • Experience of VB Scripting or Visual Basic
  • Experience testing browser applications
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • A desire to develop your own knowledge by keeping abreast of testing tools and techniques, attending workshops and reviewing technical publications.
  • Innovative problem solving skills

Desirable:

  • Experience of structured testing methods and techniques
  • Full Software Development Lifecycle Experience
  • Working knowledge of SQL and .NET and or Java
  • Test Qualification ISEB or other
  • Experience in healthcare or retail systems is a strong advantage.
