Role Purpose:

We are looking for a Business Analyst with experience in software development.

This candidate will be responsible for:

  • understanding the research business environment, the lab processes, data flow, and research data in order to identify the informatics needs.
    As part of a global team, the candidate will gather requirements to build and deliver enterprise informatics solutions. Small applications are predominately (but not exclusively) designed for Laboratory business.
  • the design, implementation, testing and maintenance of small applications. The development will be done in collaboration with a team of expert offshore programmers.
  • All work must be well documented to ensure ongoing operational support. Experience in programming is required to ensure good quality.

In summary, we are looking for a business analyst, who is comfortable working closely with end user clients and with a team of developers to deliver customized applications. In addition, the ability to think creatively and initiate fresh and innovative ideas is essential.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Understand the business environment by working directly with the scientists.
  • Support other IT teams by evaluating and improving their processes.
  • Analyze and challenge business processes and identify areas with potential for optimization.
  • Collect requirements to build and deliver informatics solutions to address immediate needs.
  • Manage individual applications, including planning and monitoring of the work performed by other developers
  • Manage the delivery of software solutions, including:
  • Gathering of requirements, evaluation of feasibility and documentation of user requirements
  • Design of GUI using low fidelity wireframes
  • Interaction with other IT teams to identify sources which can be reused (web services, databases etc.)
  • Recommend architecture, decide on technology to use and collaborate closely with a team of developers
  • Test final solution if all requirements are covered
  • Monitor project progress by tracking activities
  • Deliver on time, cost and high quality applications that meet customer requirements.
  • Enable creative use of existing technology platforms and encourage new technologies where appropriate.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in both a life science discipline and computer science.
  • Strong knowledge in programming language such as C#, ASP .NET or equivalent, experience in SQL, SharePoint is beneficial.
  • Contribute to architecture, design and planning effort to support a variety of projects.
  • Provide support to internal team members and scientists.
  • Interface with internal IT teams and with key business owners to define project requirements, scope and resources allocations.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Visio.
  • A self-motivated, driven individual with proven client handling skills, the ability to work as part of a proactive, global team.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) in English.
