Description
Utilize analytical techniques to develop and validate cooling system designs considering performance and underhood temperatures.- Develop cooling system specifications.
- Generate multiple cooling system concepts and maintain analytical master models with accountability to make sure cooling systems meet performance specifications.
- Size and select heat exchangers and fans via 1D analysis program similar to KULI.
- Determine water circuit configuration including pump sizing, flow split balancing, and pressure drop assessment using 1D analysis programs.
- Collaborate with design partners to meet ambient temperature capability, fan power and noise requirements.
- Develop CFD models to understand air flow through cooling packages.
- Develop underhood thermal CFD models to predict component temperatures and effects on cooling package air flow.
- Participate in cooling/airflow tests and correlate analysis models.
- Perform analysis to assist in resolving cooling related field problems.
- Work to continuously improve the accuracy and efficiency of cooling analysis processes and tools.
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Related Engineering Field.
- Strong analytical background.
- Course work in CFD.
- Strong background in thermo-sciences (some graduate level courses in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer).
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- 1D or 3D Cooling Component or System analysis experience.
- Experience with CFD tools, particularly FLUENT.
- Experience with meshing tools, particularly T-Grid and ANSA.
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Related Engineering Field.
- Working knowledge of engine and Powertrain cooling systems.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines and emission systems (aftertreatment).
- 2+ years experience using Fluent.
- Experience using Pro/E, and 1D analysis tools similar to KULI.
- Knowledge of product development processes for machines and engines.
- Project management skills allowing for handling of multiple projects and priorities.
