Supplier Quality Engineer - Contract - Dorset

Our Client requires a number of Development Engineers to develop systems for a wide range of customers. These systems require many leading edge technologies to meet demanding performance and safety requirements; including: precision hydraulic and fuel systems, motor drive technologies, composite braking and actuation, avionic control systems incorporating complex electronic hardware, software and system control, monitoring and indication, aerodynamic metallic and composite structures.

The successful candidate will work as part of the engineering team collating equipment and system level requirements qualification evidence in order to demonstrate compliance to customer requirements.

You will be responsible for:

Process of working - Start of Programme

  • Planning Elements
  • Supporting the Systems Engineer in the Bid proposal, time & cost planning for the project, Systems Requirements Capture.
  • Liaise with the Systems Engineers, gathering requirements documentation then collating from the customer and creating a qualification plan.
    • That qualification plan is a justification that the Development Engineers can use to justify how they are going to achieve the requirement.
    • When conducting the testing they will be able to refer to the qualification plan to ensure each stage is met to the customer standards and then they can verify with the customer that they are happy with the progress.
  • Preparing bid proposals to ensure that costing's and timings of AAR equipment systems or Auxiliary Systems meet the qualification plans and verified by the customer.

TEST:

  • The Development Engineer would be required to complete the Physical Testing of Hardware and Writing Test Procedures for the AAR systems and Auxiliary Equipment.
  • Arranging Assets which could be hardware required or test, it could be large/small or looms or any other fixtures required for the test. Identify which test house would be best, depending on the equipment and size.
  • Prepare plans of Action - How to do test - When to do test - are there logistics involved and raising requests accordingly.
  • They would also be witnessing test.
  • Demonstrate to the client that a clear process is been followed and to agree conformity.

REPORT WRITING:

  • Collating data
  • Put it in concise way
  • Recording against requirement in DOORS (requirement gathering software.)

TYPICAL PROBLEMS:

The Development Engineers need to determine whether the requirements from the customer are correct, if not they need to mediate with the customer and come to an agreement.

They will be responsible for finding the right test facilities to conduct the correct test determine.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities for Development Engineers include:

  • Provide technical input to requirements definition and validation.
  • Customer and supplier facing responsibilities to discuss and agree qualification strategy and activity.
  • Compilation of development and qualification plans including functional, environmental and mechanical aspects.
  • Compilation of test procedures and reports.
  • Analysis and interpretation of test data.
  • Equipment and system evaluation against requirements to produce qualification statements including analysis and comparison of requirements and build standards.
  • Input to verification matrices at equipment, sub-system or system level to demonstrate compliance to customers.
  • Planning, arranging and attending test activities including control of test hardware, test support equipment, transportation and test cost and schedule.

Qualifications: Qualifications and experience for Development Engineers will ideally include:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent
  • Experience of requirements management tools (DOORS, CRADLE etc.)
  • Knowledge of environmental standards (RTCA DO160, MIL-STD-810 etc.)
  • Experience of performing environmental and functional testing
  • Experience of development engineering activities and understanding of product life cycles.

The Development Engineers will have evidence of understanding requirements, writing plans and procedures, organising tests, writing reports. Also producing verification/compliance matrices.

Quality standards justified, DO160 - quality standard against the following: Temperature, icing, bird strikes, vibration, fluid susceptibility, altitude, flammability, RF emission and fuel contamination.
