Description
Sout (https://scoutapp.com/) builds hosted server monitoring that our customers love. We take a lot of pride in our product (making it awesome), our work (making it fun), and our co-workers (making them happy). We're looking to add the fourth human to our close-knit group. So, what's special about being a Ruby dev @ Scout?
First, great people! Second, great tech: Ruby, Sinatra, jQuery, Websockets, d3. There won't be an LDAP integration in sight, we promise. Third, you'll have a tremendous impact -- you'll be developer #2 in a group of four.
What you'll be working on
You'll be building the future of server monitoring. A sampling of projects we need your brain for:
You'll also have a key role in keeping Scout running smoothly. Since our customer base is constantly growing, we occasionally hit capacity limits & need to track down performance problems. There will (rarely) be urgent troubleshooting that needs to be done off-hours.
Skills & Requirements
Please be comfortable with Ruby and a framework like Rails or Sinatra. You should know some Javascript. Experience with high-throughput, data-heavy apps is important.
Beyond the technical chops, the single most important thing is your initiative. Will you dive into a problem unprompted? Point out problems and give suggestions on fixing it? Given a high-level goal, can you break it actionable chunks, ask for help when you need it, and see everything through to completion?
You won't be micro-managed at Scout. We'll sit down together weekly to establish priorities, then you'll run with it. We trust you to make great technical decisions, from the architecture to implementation details. Since we're a small team, communication is lightweight - no TPS reports required.
