Mechanical/Electrical Design Engineer - Defence Sector - 12 months - Hybrid (South Wales)
One of Orbis' defence clients are looking for a team of 5 Mechanical/Electrical Design Engineers to join a multi-disciplined engineering team involved in the development, manufacture and testing of a number of new products.
You'll be working on some of the coolest and most innovative products within defence with autonomy to input your own ideas to the design.
Responsibilities
- Assisting product development and systems engineering activities for new products
- Coordination of product development and related engineering activities
- Configuration and maintenance of Engineering bills of materials for products
- Product development and evaluation eg Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Manufacture, test and evaluation of munitions products
- Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner - from the trials planning stage to completion of the trial and presentation of the data
- Development and use safe systems of work
- Development of quality systems
- Management of stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure that development activities are completed to time and schedule
- Contribution to the Life Cycle Management Process where required
- Contribution to the Risk Management process
- Liaise with customers as demanded
- Working as part of an integrated project team, with regular engagement across other functions; including project management, procurement (supply chain) and commercial
Competencies, Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar Engineering discipline)
- Available for immediate start
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a proven capability in development projects, in particular system integration
- Proven ability to take ownership, prioritise and deliver product Engineering tasks within development projects to ensure completion within agreed timescales and to required standard
- Ability to produce high quality technical reports
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and strong IT skills
- A good understanding of project/risk management and the ability to use associated tools and techniques
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and models

Location: Glascoed, South Wales (Onsite for the first 2 months, then 2 days a week onsite)
