Freelancers bring:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Speed:<\/strong> They can often onboard in weeks, not months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expertise: <\/strong>Many bring experience across industries and projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fresh perspective: <\/strong>Freelancers bring insights from the \u201coutside world.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As Jon put it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>One of the best reasons to bring in a freelancer isn\u2019t just to get the job done faster or cheaper \u2014 it\u2019s that they bring your team closer to the outside world. They carry fresh ideas and practices from other companies right into yours.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Business Model to Channel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Jon believes freelancing is no longer just a \u201cbusiness model\u201d. Freelancing is becoming a channel that blends into a broader workforce strategy. Platforms that once focused only on freelancers are now offering everything from full-time hiring to AI-powered solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That shift makes it more urgent for companies to define&nbsp;<em>how<\/em>&nbsp;freelancers fit into their strategy, rather than treating them as last-minute gap fillers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Most organisations don\u2019t even have a real workforce strategy. Until they start thinking about three legs \u2014 employees, freelancers, and AI \u2014 they\u2019ll keep treating independents as a marginal utility instead of a real superpower.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Actionable Steps for Companies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So what should leaders do if they want to start benefiting from independent talent?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Clarify your needs<\/strong>: Don\u2019t just say \u201cwe need help.\u201d Be specific about the project, scope, and outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leverage trusted referrals<\/strong>: Trust is strongest when it comes from a credible third party.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Treat freelancers like businesses<\/strong>: Respect their expertise, contracts, and processes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Build ongoing relationships<\/strong>: Don\u2019t just use freelancers once; make them part of your evolving workforce strategy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is as simple as talking to them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>The goal isn\u2019t to make freelancing feel exceptional or weird. The goal is to make it feel normal \u2014 just another tool every company uses to get things done, alongside employees and technology.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Future: Employees + Freelancers + AI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jon sees the <strong>future of work<\/strong> not as a competition between full-time staff, freelancers, and AI, but <strong>as a collaboration<\/strong>. AI will eliminate repetitive \u201cdumb work,\u201d freeing humans to focus on creativity and problem-solving. Freelancers will continue to bring <strong>specialised expertise<\/strong> and <strong>speed<\/strong>. Employees will provide stability and cultural backbone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The companies that thrive will be the ones that&nbsp;<strong>embrace all three<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freelancers aren\u2019t just a stopgap \u2014 they\u2019re a <strong>strategic advantage<\/strong>.
