Honesty is the best policy when it comes down to paid referrals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dealing with unexpected referral fees \u2013 Say no!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There really is only one, very simple way, to deal with people who ask for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freelancermap.com\/freelancer-tips\/7816-how-to-get-referrals-by-earning-them-instead-of-asking\">referrals<\/a> after the fact. Stay firm and <strong>say no. <\/strong>As long as there wasn\u2019t full disclosure from the beginning, you are not legally obligated to pay someone anything they just decide to ask for out of the blue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who do that won\u2019t stay in business for very long. And they are definitely not people that you want to be working with on a regular basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While they may be able to squeeze out fees from a few newbie freelancers, in the end, unexpected referral fees requests will burn all their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freelancermap.com\/freelancer-tips\/10419-5-tips-on-keeping-in-touch-with-former-clients\">business relationships<\/a>, which are the single most important things in a business model that relies on commissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if somebody asks you for a fee after you\u2019ve already agreed to do the work or even started doing it, just say no.
