In fact, the success of apps like Snapchat and, recently, Instagram, can largely be attributed to the emergence of storytelling in the digital sphere. Now anyone can tell their story and share it with the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s Your Story?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything can be a story \u2013 from your Twitter profile bio to each single application you send. These are stories about who you are, what skills you have and how that fits with the goal at hand. If you\u2019ve really nailed your brand and are looking to sell an eBook or maybe some online courses, this might the type of story for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Type 3: Where are you headed?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As the headline suggests, this is the type of story that looks into the future. It encourages people to stick with you or help you along the way because you have a compelling vision. Now these aren\u2019t strictly separate types. They can be mixed and matched, they\u2019re like puzzle pieces that fit together in lots of way to create something different every time. You can think of every application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/freelancermap.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/channel_incl2\/how-to-use-storytelling-for-your-freelance-brand-4972.jpg\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Should You Utilize Storytelling?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you\u2019re not compelled by all the arguments made so far in this article towards utilizing storytelling, here\u2019s two more that might be the most important of them all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make Yourself Stand Out<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Freelancing is like being a single fish in the entire ocean \u2013 with the exception that you actually want to be noticed and pulled out on the surface. To do that, you want to be the brightest fish there is. In other words, <b>you want to stand out<\/b>. Whether we like it or not, people don\u2019t stand out with a long list of skills and experiences. Even if you have those, you have to present them in the right way. People with <b>engaging personal stories <\/b>can be fascinating in a way no college degree can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Freelancing is a Relationship Business<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondly, freelancing is centered on building relationships &#8211; with your clients, with your audience, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freelancermap.com\/freelancers-directory.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fellow freelancers<\/a>. You will need to be able to rely on these relationships at least as much as you can rely on your skills. They might decide whether you get that next project, whether or not you get a collaboration offer from a colleague \u2013 and they will definitely decide if you\u2019re getting recommended by someone. Active vs Passive<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Every story needs a storyteller who also determines whether it\u2019s passive or active. A <b>passive story<\/b> is where things happen to you. Where your talent gets noticed, you get recommended, or a colleague helps you along the way. An <b>active story<\/b> attributes more of your <b>success to yourself<\/b> \u2013 where you made sure you got noticed, found the right people to work with and worked hard to get where you\u2019re at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Don\u2019t be Afraid to Mention Weaknesses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Be careful of overselling yourself, though. Everybody makes mistakes. If you try to present your story in a way that makes you look like someone with a perfect record, no slip-ups and always making the right decisions, people will notice. In fact, admitting weaknesses will help people <b>empathize<\/b> and <b>relate to your story <\/b>\u2013 and that\u2019s a sure way towards being remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.Modify the Focus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t only have one single story you\u2019re telling. You have several, probably even dozens. According to what a story is aimed at, you should modify it. Think of <b>telling stories like applying for different projects<\/b>. You focus first and foremost on the skills that are most important to the project.
