Skills

I have two decades of experience in providing evidence-based research, insights, competitive analysis, market / opportunity assessments, customer research and analysis, market sizing and market mapping to clients in a wide range of industries and across all global regions.

Projects I work on usually require me to deploy a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research techniques, analytical and forecast methodologies to understand different markets / competitors and to provide clients with actionable learnings from competitors and customers.

My approach enables me to propose individual solutions that match the unique requirements and scope of each project as well as delivering a project solution that is able to provide actionable strategic recommendations for my clients.

Project history

03/2013 - Present

Self-employed market strategy consultant, providing clients with consulting, research, market analysis and strategic planning for projects in Asia Pacific, North America and Europe. I utilize a range of research and data modelling methodologies to inform client strategies. Most projects involve one or several of the following:
  • General market research and thought leadership
  • Market sizing
  • Regulatory trends and impact
  • Target market identification / opportunity identification
  • Go-to-market strategy
  • Market segment identification and analysis
  • Competitor analysis / competitor strategic analysis
  • Evidence-based strategy development and implementation

03/2006 - 03/2013
Regional Manager APAC, KAE Marketing Intelligence

Consulting, analysis, insight and advice for financial service companies (mainly payments) within APAC, North America and EMEA. Work utilized quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to inform clients’ strategic decisions. I also adopted a range of approaches to size opportunities for clients to optimize their product design and pricing strategies using scenario modelling from customer and research data.
Projects at KAE covered the following key strategic areas:
  • Product development and go-to-market strategy
  • Regulatory compliance / global best practice
  • Market analytics, segmentation and market sizing
  • Merchant / acquirer pricing models
  • Market development strategy (e.g. developing markets) and strategic modelling
  • Revenue maximization across key consumer and B2B segments
  • Ad-hoc advice and analytics
My main activities at KAE encompassed the following:
  • Project development with client stakeholders to ensure that projects met and exceeded requirements. This included developing research, survey design and execution analysis and delivery plans, often conducted with a wider global project team based in London and my own team spread across the Asia Pacific region
  • Resource planning for individual project requirements in my region
  • Undertaking most research (quant, qual, primary and secondary), data analysis and creation of deliverables
  • Delivery to different stakeholder groups (from C-Level downwards), ensuring that all delivered material offered actionable recommendations and insight, telling the story in a way that appealed to each audience level
  • Maintaining expert knowledge of all key trends and issues affecting the payment card industry in the Asia Pacific region and in other regions
  • After working remotely in the region from 2009 (based in Tokyo, Japan), I established, registered and then ran an APAC Representative Office for KAE in Taipei, Taiwan
  • Recruitment and management of additional staff where required within the APAC Taiwan office
  • Managed the career development plans, coaching and training of staff based in the APAC Taiwan office
  • Local office management and regional supplier management
  • Business development and relationship management across the whole APAC region
  • Ensured that the London head office was kept aware of all activity undertaken by the APAC Taiwan office, often inviting London-based staff to the region for projects where additional specialized support was required
