Project history

03/2008 - Today: Secondary Air Systems Engineer (Freelance) chez MTU Aero Engines - Munich (Germany)

Analysis and Assessment of Secondary Air Systems of Aero Engine Turbines and Compressors:

- Use and application of analytical standard procedures and processes, design and test evaluation and solving complex analytical problems with efficient measures within the Secondary Air Discipline
- Coordinate the boundary conditions to be used for the SAS assessments with the involved disciplines
- Use of component and full engine models in order to design and optimize the system with respect to requirements
- Cooperation to verify the SAS integrity compared with standard work and experience
- Specification of tests and analysis of test results

11/2007 - 02/2008: Aerodynamicist - Airbus Deutschland (GCT-GED Group) - Bremen (Germany)

Analysis of the A350-XWB high-lift devices aerodynamic loads based on low speed wind tunnel data for longitudinal motion, spoiler and aileron and configuration effects.

- Identification and correction of false pressure data.
- Comparisons of wind tunnel analysis with CFD calculations for various Reynolds numbers.
- Use of several Fortran-based codes – Modifications according to new input formats.
- Write-up of a wind tunnel analysis report and delivery of final data.
4 month contract – Involves working under pressure in order to fulfil the customer requirements in terms of data integrity and delivery.

06/2005 - 10/2007: R&D Engineer - Airbus España (Aeroconseil Iberica) - Getafe (Spain)

• NEFA (New Empennage For Aircraft) R&D program:
Investigation of the longitudinal and lateral aerodynamic characteristics of an Airbus “V-Tail” tailplane under various flight conditions (low-speed and high-speed, take-off, cruise and landing) and aircraft configurations (slats/flaps extended or retracted, symmetrical/asymmetrical/anti-symmetrical elevator deflections).
- To define an aerodynamic model of the main force and moment coefficients, taking into account the aerodynamic phenomena such as downwash and dynamic pressure loss.
- To compare the efficiencies of the V-tail with the conventional HTP/VTP concept.
- General aerodynamic modelling (stalling angle, non-linearity, etc.) and analysis of the left and right tail interaction as a function of various elevator angle configurations.

• REFUTA R&D program:
Tail pressure coefficient analysis and aerodynamic load distribution according to different wing load distributions, taking into account the downwash effect. Pressure corrections and investigation of the distribution due to different wing planforms.
Frequent use of Fortran and Matlab. Code interface improvement.

12/2003 - 06/2005: Aerodynamics Engineer - Stirling Dynamics Ltd - Bristol (UK)

• Calculation and analysis of aerodynamic loads on the Airbus A320 and A380 slats and droop noses for several flight configurations (slats extended/retracted, fatigue missions, jamming, etc). Comparisons with previous wind tunnel campaigns.
• Performance prediction (aerodynamic loads, dynamic behaviour) of the Eurofighter Typhoon towed decoy for different flight cases involving complex manoeuvres. Optimisation investigation of the results analysis.
Project with BAE Systems.
Responsibility for the validity and coherency of the data delivered to the customer. Flexible approach to changing situations. Frequent use of Matlab and its GUI (Graphical User Interface).

05/2003 - 09/2003: Final year placement (MSc thesis) - Cranfield University - Cranfield (UK)

Aerodynamic investigation of the “Mini Observer” UAV using an economical and fast CFD solver.

- Modification of the 3-D geometry model of the UAV in order to adapt it to the mesh generation (Catia)
- Grid generation with some grid independence studies (Gridgen), using some unstructured meshing with tetrahedrons.
- Computation of the model (Fluent) and post-processing (Fieldview).
- Flow visualisation, aerodynamic coefficients calculation and comparison with the wind tunnel tests.
Ability to work creatively, independently and under pressure. Project with Cranfield Aerospace Ltd and QinetiQ.

06/2002 - 08/2002: 2nd year placement - Florida Space Institute - Orlando (USA)

Development, design, and aerodynamic analysis of a Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) Launch Facility for the atmospheric Super-Loki sounding rocket, based on the NASA Foster-Miller track.
The project involved working with ProEngineer and Gambit/Fluent.

02/2002 - 05/2002: 2nd year project – Polytech’ Orléans - Orléans (France)

Design of a civil mini UAV in collaboration with Sagem Défense Sécurité (Safran Group) in terms of mechanical, structural, aerodynamic, performance and propulsion investigations. Calculations iteration process to meet the UAV technical specifications ’ requirements.
