Operating System AS400
Team Size 7
Role Onsite Lead
Period September, 2012 – Till Date
Project Objective & Project Description
Belk Inc. has initiated Belk - Wave 2 project to implement different Cognizant’s solutions for Demand Chain Management (DCM) and Warehouse Management (WM) for Belk’s new stores and warehouses. Another purpose of this project to upgrade the current system for Demand Chain Management and Warehouse Management for Belk’s existing stores and warehouses to the Cognizant standard.

Cognizant’s DCM solution will be used to assists in Inventory management and automation of replenishment from Vendor to DC and DC to Stores. Cognizant’s DCM solution will work with the input from RDF (Oracle Retail Demand Forecast) and EDW (Enterprise Data Warehouse) to suggest orders to be used by the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Purchase Order Management (POM) modules.

Another Cognizant solution for Distributed Order Management (DOM) to distribute eCommerce Orders within different warehouses based on the availability of the item. Cognizant’s DOM solution will work as medium between eCommerce and Warehouse Management System.

The DCM Implementation program involves multiple components – Sourcing data from the data warehouse (part of a larger IEDW initiative), enhancements to the WMS system and development of a new Purchase Order Management system.
This proposal focuses on the interfaces between DCM and RDF, Host (legacy) and WMS systems. Additionally, enhancements will be made to the WMS System and a new ‘Wave Picking’ module will be implemented for more efficient DC operations.

Cognizant executed requirement analysis, design, development, testing, UAT support, deployment & pilot support, and post go-live support of the proposed enhancements to Warehouse Management System. The web components of the application were developed using J2EE on Websphere Application Server and the batch components/interfaces developed using COBOL 400, CL/CLLE and RPG/RPGLE. The back-end database is DB2 400 on iSeries. Implementation was done using TURNOVER and SOMPLUS.
