Scope of Works
The works mainly include design, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of a traffic control and surveillance system for the connecting road linking up the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point and the existing Fanling Highway. The system will mainly consist of computer systems, communication facilities, variable message signs and other traffic field equipment.
Job Duty
Design drawing works
Using the AutoCad to draft the working drawings design. In my case, I am response to design the bracket for the lane control signal sign and the camera inside tunnel. Inside drawings. I have to decide the material (SS316 steel), painting system(Hot dip galvanized or Zinc coating system) regarding to the specification from Hong Kong Government. The installation detail of the equipment. Finally, the reference design Loading Stress calculation to Structural Engineer.
Document works
Besides providing the design drawing, Material submission and method statement submission are my duty need to finish. For the material, if we look for some product / equipment from the market. The first thing needs to is check with the specification from contract document to see is it comply or not. If yes, provide the testing failure data and the previous job reference.
Method statement is the important part for installing the equipment on site. It is the official document to show the procedure of works. For example, method statement for installs the high mast on bridge. I need to sort out the size of the lorry crane to lift the high mast, number of the worker, material of using( high mast, bolt and nuts for fixing), submit detail lifting-plan to safety officer, risk assessment and the emergency phone call list.
Set up a planning for installing equipment on site
Received all the approved working drawings and document from consultant. Draft the possible installation planning before the actual action. For example, If I want to install the sign inside tunnel. For internal set up, first thing I need to know is the planning date, tell the subcontractor the date of installation to arrange labor schedule. Then contact logistic team to collect the sign from warehouse and deliver to construction site on that day. Last but not least,  I need to contact the consultant work supervisor to inspect the installation works and the safety supervisor to ensure every steps is under control and safe.
On the other hand, I need to contact the tunnel in-charge site engineer (other Civil Contractors) have a site walk to see any road works may cause blockage or danger for the installation. ( bad weather, installing claddings works in tunnel , gravel road works or cabling laying works and the water proof material laying on bridge may affect the final date of installation). When I can confirm all the parties are happy for the installation date. Finally, send the email to all the parties (Responded Consultant‘s Resident Engineer, Related Civil Contractor Engineer, internal staff (Sub-contractor and the logistic team) to confirm the installation date. Bring the approved document to site and see the installation works. Sign with all the parties to confirm when works finish
