Smart Workplace Transformation Program ($10m budget, 11k users)

As part of the OneNAB Smart Workplace transformation program, I developed a new enterprise-wide mobile workplace application ($10m, 11k users) providing a single interface to complete common workplace interactions and tasks such as
  • Booking meeting rooms and spaces
  • Initiating virtual meetings (Zoom, Teams)
  • Registering visitors (building access)
  • Booking and managing lockers
  • Navigating around the building (Wayfinding)
  • Raise service requests (ServiceNow)
  • Enabling people to receive assistance / alerts / notifications (e.g. emergency alerts)
This was achieved by linking the new App to existing and new workplace services within 3 new commercial Smart buildings.
Phase 2 included broader enterprise services such as human resources activities (e.g. leave requests), identifying subject matter experts, social connectivity, booking wellness classes and ordering food / beverages.

Benefits:
  • Enhanced staff experience and productivity which drove an increase in employee satisfaction and lead to improved staff retention and greater customer focus.
  • Automation of every-day tasks (e.g. registering a visitor & booking a meeting room).
  • No need to use / install native apps for each service / system.

Digital advertising presence for 1200 venues ($300m budget)

CrownBet affiliated with ClubsNSW to establish an innovative, digital wagering advertising presence for those ClubsNSW member venues (1200) who choose to participate in the program.

The purpose of the CrownBet advertising zone was to enable CrownBet to advertise its products to members and patrons in a modern and attractive manner. The cutting-edge solution included video walls displaying digital signage like live TV content, odds / promotions & marketing material driven by a newly implemented CMS system as well as AV equipment, POS components, internet & Wi-Fi services, beacon & geo-location technology, Cisco appliances, commercial displays, and furniture. A new mobile app allowed for better customer engagement.

One of the major challenges was to find a suitable vendor which could offer a CMS system to centrally control content displaying on the video walls in addition to delivering all of the technology equipment required.

  • Led the RFP supplier selection process for the $300m cutting-edge project.
  • Managed the development of a new customer facing mobile app allowing for better customer engagement.
  • Built a POC and pilot site at Crown Casino including CMS system, digital signage, AV equipment, POS components, internet & Wi-Fi services, beacon & geo-location technology, Cisco appliances, commercial displays, and furniture.
  • Evaluated findings learned from POC and pilot, introduced improvements to reach business goals and to ensure superior customer experience.

Project details:

Optimisation of procurement and asset management processes
Inconsistent and inefficient procurement processes caused some issues within CrownBet's IT department. I implemented a process where staff needed to raise tickets through Jira when requiring IT equipment. Following that process, the IT helpdesk was using Jira to keep track of orders and request approvals before initiating the purchase. The asset management was also improved using Jira by linking assets to requests and asset details could be seen right from the linked tickets (for asset tracking / warranty purposes etc.).

01/2015 - 06/2015

Project details:

Restructured the IT help desk and implemented an RMM, PSA and ticketing system on Hyper-V Server
Fast growing of Tech Away’s customer base made it necessary to restructure the IT help desk and implement an RMM, PSA and ticketing system. MSP Manager is a cloud-based service management software that integrates with N-central, it allowed us to create tickets based on N-central monitoring alerts. Those systems linked together enabled our team to respond faster to any issues and significantly increased performance and customer satisfaction.

01/2006 - 10/2012
Project Manager / IT Manager
Apra-norm Elektromechanik GmbH (250-500 employees)
Industry and mechanical engineering
Managed following projects (details below):
  • ERP system replacement ($4m).
  • Modernisation of an automated high-bay warehouse ($5m).
  • Relocation of factory and offices to new facilities ($900k).
  • Installation of a Video Surveillance System (CCTV) and Swipe Card Access Control System.
  • Windows Server and client migrations (500 PCs).
  • Rebuild Windows Active Directory (AD) structure incl. GPO implementation.
  • Implementation of a VOIP phone system.
Other responsibilities:
  • Responsible for subsidiaries of the Apra-Group initiating further development to reach business goals.
  • Managed the IT team and local / international IT infrastructure.
  • Collaborated with various stakeholders to gather and analyse business / user requirements.
  • Constantly evaluated existing business processes and procedures, identified issues, and introduced refinements / improvements.
  • Fully responsible for IT procurement (hardware, licenses, and supplier contracts).
  • Managed critical risk factors including governance and compliance.

Project details:

ERP system replacement ($4m budget)
The growing complexity of production processes and the existence of outdated individual applications raised the demand for a new ERP system.

Apra‐norm’s benefits of the implementation can be seen by the following key points:
• Replacement of individual applications with integrated modules.
• Precise production planning and controlling.
• Reduced errors within warehouse processes (e.g. receiving, picking products) by implementing wireless handheld scanners.
• Reduced manufacturing errors.
• Facilitated product configuration.
• Continuous illustration of business processes and workflows.
• Automated archiving of scanned documents.
• Access to company documents across locations.
• Multiple language support.

Modernisation of an automated high-bay warehouse ($5m budget)
Demands on capacities and production operations had changed considerably, which required revisions of the logistics processes. The reorganisation of the conveyor system and picking workstations in the pre‐storage area considerably increased the system's overall performance by 50%.

Benefits:
• Optimised workflows within the installation lead to an improved utilisation of the available storage space, increasing the storage and retrieval performance.
• Picking operations have been facilitated and optimised for the warehouse personnel.
• A laser system was visualising which product needed to be picked from a pallet (pointing on the right location). This reduced picking errors and labour.
• The new warehouse management system was more flexible and suitable for Apra-norm's requirements.

Relocation of factory and offices to new facilities ($900k budget)
Apra-nom experienced capacity constraints due to constantly increasing production orders and a growing company structure, this led to the acquisition of new production and office facilities in Mehren located 15km from the original location in Daun. The headquarters including all departments were moved to the new facilities and a new IT infrastructure were built.

Installation of a Video Surveillance System (CCTV) and Swipe Card Access Control System
After experiencing some security incidents, Apra-norm decided to implement a Video Surveillance System (CCTV) and Swipe Card Access Control System throughout the office buildings as well as their factories and car parks. The solution was designed in collaboration with an external security firm and installed after I signed off the project plan.

07/2002 - 12/2005
Senior Systems Engineer
Apra-norm Elektromechanik GmbH (250-500 employees)
Industry and mechanical engineering
Managed following projects (details below):
  • Introduction of various enterprise systems (DMS, PDM, Antivirus).
  • Optimisation of the printing infrastructure.
  • Implementation of a SAN system in a virtual machine environment (VMware).
  • Implementations of production machinery and equipment.
Other responsibilities:
  • IT procurement and asset management lead.
  • Resolved client software, hardware, network, and system issues (Level 3 support).
  • Management of Windows servers in Hyper-V and VMware environments.
  • Trained users and prepared documentation.
  • Managed backup and recovery solutions.

Project details:

PDM system implementation, modernisation of the CAD / CAM systems
The growing complexity of manufactured products caused an increase in the demand for an integrated product data management system (PDM). During the update process of the existing CAD and CAM systems a new PDM solution was implemented to manage and synchronise design data across the product development team with a single, easily deployable solution.

Benefits:
- Dramatically reduced the time spent searching for parts, assemblies, and drawings.
- Automated the approval process through integrated workflows.
- Automatically protected data with tracking and version control.

Optimisation of the printing infrastructure
Growing printing costs within the company group increased the requirement for an optimisation of the printing infrastructure. Existing printing devices were replaced, and a maintenance and support agreement negotiated with an external consulting company. Additional appropriate restrictions on printing rights for users contributed to the saving of printing expenses.

Implementations of production machinery and equipment
Apra-nom constantly upgraded their machinery to secure competitiveness on the market and to adopt to improved manufacturing techniques. New machines had to be integrated in the existing IT infrastructure to exchange CNC data with computers, to backup machinery data on servers and to setup remote access to the machine.
