Problem: When HPE Software and Micro Focus merged, all systems had to be reconfigured (VMware, Hyper-V, Windows Server, Linux, HP-UX, Solaris, network switches, storage systems, ...). There was no configuration management system shared by all departments.
Role: Decision about make-or-buy, followed by architecture, planning (roadmap, effort, resources), management (5-member development team in England, Germany, Australia), development, and documentation of the system for the automated migration and reporting of the basic system configurations of all systems in the environment. For this purpose, the development team was set up after interviews, an Ansible/Puppet/Chef-like framework was developed and used in several project phases by the project and analyst team against ~70,000 systems. Communication, exchange and coordination with all departments and senior management was the basis of every project phase.
