SKILLS
As a Swissgerman speaking studying physics in french, as a physicist accomplishing a PhD in biology, as a scientist creating industry standard web applications (c.f. projects) and as a VIM power-user, I know what it means to stay dedicated and over-come steep learning-curves.

With contributions in international scientific journals and book series with topics as diverse as
  • Machine Learning (e.g. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevE.88.060801)
  • Epidemiology (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005704)
  • Risk Assessment for Critical Infrastructures (https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-41826-7_4)
  • Behavioural Biology (e.g. https://doi.org/10.1098/rspb.2019.2880)
  • Social Insects (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005527)
I have developed a certain expertise in quickly identifying relevant challenges and developing effective ways to approach them.

In more than 10 years of almost daily hands on exposure to python, I have gained a profound knowledge in object oriented and functional programming and gathered practical experience with a wide range of its package eco-system, including data-related libraries (numpy, pandas, geopandas, SQLAlchemy, django models, pymongo, etc.), ML-relevant libraries (scikit-learn, networkx, OpenCV, igraph, etc.), packages for web-development (django, flask), various API’s (twitter, github, kucoin, etc.), networking & process management (requests, celery, asyncio, multiprocessing, pyspark, etc.), and testing & documentation (sphinx, pytest, unittest, etc.).
I have also authored several python packages for data-processing, analysis and visualization (see https://github.com/j-i-l).

At a higher level, I’m familiar with common design patterns (the gang of four patterns), documentation and testing standards (including test-driven development) as well as continuous integration.
