Responsibilities as BI project manager and HANA architect:
  • Initiate and manage HANA based innovative management information solutions:
    • Implement real-time BW Finance reporting using a HANA sidecar to shorten the financial  period end closure by 1 day.
    • Define a hybrid SAP BW on HANA system architecture to create a data warehouse that provides a single-source-of-truth for self-service tools (Tableau, Spotfire and Micro Strategy).
    • Implement BW on HANA 7.5 system optimisations.
  • Improve the BI deployment and project methodology.
  • Design and implement HANA based solutions for LEAN process optimizations.
  • Coordinate cross process team reporting topics.
  • Building a global reporting user network.
  • Design and implement BW reports, HANA views and Tableau dashboards (FI, CO, SCM)

Michiel was involved in two major BHP Billiton programs: MSAP and 1SAP.
 
BHP Billiton - 1SAP | 2011 – 2015 | Multiple releases.
The 1SAP Project initiated a global business transformation within BHPB Billiton to establish one platform to execute, transact and report on standardized end-to-end business processes. The 1SAP Project is a large (USD2B+) SAP implementation impacting 30+ Assets, 125.000 employees and contractors in 125+ locations in 25+ countries worldwide. By introducing standardized processes on a global scale, efficiency is achieved based on best practice and performance can be measured and compared on a common basis across Assets and business units.
Michiel engaged in multiple roll-outs and project phases from design, built, testing to deployment. The main area of his involvement was in Reporting & Analytics with a focus on Marketing, Finance, Management Reporting and Budgeting & Forecasting.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • BI Lead consultant on design and delivery of the improved global Budgeting & Forecasting process.
  • Design of an orchestration tool to manage and control the planning process. The tool requires deep integration with related BI data load processes and BI-IP planning functions.

BPS Roll-out | Design lead consultant and system architect
Blueprint, design and implementation of a standardized BPS based revenue forecast system. The scope of the roll-out covers 16 commodities that are spread over three Marketing hubs in The Hague, Singapore and Houston.

Gross Margin | Senior BI Architect
Design and delivery of an automated BPS based revenue forecast and financial P&L and Balance Sheet planning application. The implementation covers 5 commodities spread over the Marketing offices in The Hague and Singapore.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment is responsible for a large number of funding schemes. A project was initiated to implement SAP Funds Management. As part of the project a BI-BPS tool was designed to calculate and process the advance payments of the funding schemes. The advance payments are calculated and retracted back into R/3 for further execution.
Responsibilities during the blue print phase of this project:
  • Creating the blueprint for the advance payment process and a payment sanction process.
  • Design a concept to calculate payments using BI-BPS and deliver a prototype.
  • Design a retraction concept to interface the calculated payments from the BW system to the R/3 system using the PS Records Management module.
