Job description

We are putting together a world-class, 100% distributed team and are looking for a talented WordPress Engineer to help us out. This person will report directly to Amp.build’s Art Director.

This is a retainer position with around a 16-24 hour per week commitment. We are looking for a contractor initially, but could convert to full-time if we think there’s a good fit. Hourly rate negotiable depending on your capabilities. We are just taking this project over so initially there will be a lot of cleanup work to do in order to get everything in order. After that it will be building out new site sections, new features and ongoing maintenance.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • PHP real world knowledge, 2+ years
  • WordPress API real world knowledge, 2+ years
  • Responsive web development, this is important as we will be thinking mobile first moving forward
  • Built a custom WP theme from the ground up
  • Experience working in the terminal, mostly just for using CLI tools from the host
  • Comfortable working directly in the database
  • Needs to know HTML/CSS
  • Needs to know git
  • Have a proper workflow. Committing often with detailed commit messages, Used to using servers with multiple environments (dev, staging, live, etc.)
  • Best practices in PHP, HTML/CSS, WP and Version Control

Bonus:

  • Server management
  • SEO knowledge
  • Built or maintained a WP plugin
  • Knowing how to integrate 3rd party API’s directly into a WP site
  • Experience in working on the Page.ly hosting platform

Responsibilities:

  • Keep WP core and plugins all up to date
  • Converting the theme from using Beaver Builder to using custom HTML/CSS for pages and post types when needed
  • Cleaning up the HTML/CSS to create a consistent visual look using the style guide provided by Art Director
  • Developing a blog section. Migrating blog content from a different WP instance over to the main website’s instance
  • A total mobile/responsive revamp. Currently the responsive experience is very sad.

  • Can work remote (Amp.build is based out of Chico, CA with our Art Director in Portland, OR but we all work from home and communicate via Slack and Flow)
  • Self disciplined. Because we work from home, we need people who can manage their own time responsibly
