Amazon adds 110,000 employees in one year

06.02.2017

E-commerce giant Amazon has been displaying a massive growth in employees in the last years and it isn’t showing any signs of stopping. Right now, the company has over 341,000 employees – that number was 30 percent lower last year. Five years ago, there were only 32,000 people working at Amazon.

In five years, the number of employees at Amazon has increased tenfold. As the company adds warehouses and builds new successful products (like the Echo), the number of people working there is skyrocketing. Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky said that the company has added 26 new warehouses just in 2016. And, just in the US, the company is planning to add an additional 100,000 full-time jobs over the next 18 months.

Amazon also recently posted its revenue for the financial fourth quarter of 2016. It reported $43.7 billion US dollars in revenue, up 22% compared to the same period last year. That missed analysts’ expectation by about one billion, but the company made more profit than expected. So that was a mixed Q4 for Amazon, with stocks dipping down 4.5% in after hours on the day of the announcement.

The company’s strong commitment to increasing its infrastructure and adding new logistical centers all over the world will probably lead to further increases in revenue. It’s pretty crazy how much Amazon keeps on growing despite its current size. If it keeps up the pace, we might be seeing half a million people working full-time for the e-commerce giant by late 2018.
