Obsolescence Engineer- Naval Vessels

An Obsolescence Engineer with Naval Vessels experience is required to work on a six month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our defence client based in Portsmouth.

This is a 6 month contract working with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Obsolescence Engineer contract role

You will be an obsolescence specialist in the Support Engineering Team managing our clients naval vessels. You will be required to undertake a defined range of Obsolescence engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements as well as process reactive and proactive obsolescence issues including managing the configuration and change control aspects of the OM process.

Key skills required for the Obsolescence Engineer

  • Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering life cycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process.
  • Appreciates that there are technical reviews to ensure product viability.
  • Appreciates and can articulate the need to ensure that products are acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process.
  • Has had some exposure to regulatory and statutory requirements of the product and understands potential liabilities.
  • Has an appreciation of the requirement that the environmental impact of our activities is sustainable in the long term.
  • Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long term viability of the business.
  • Understands that supportability goes beyond basic design, maintenance and operability requirements.

The role is based in Portsmouth, Hampshire - commutable from Southampton, Cowes, Isle of Wight, Salisbury, Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Guildford, Aldershot, Crawley, Horsham, Brighton, Worthing, Chichester
