Explosive Materials Technician

An Explosive Materials Technician with research and development experience is required to work on a twelve month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in South Wales

This is a 12 month contract working with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Explosive Materials Technician contract role

As an Energetics Material Technician, you will be working as part of the Energetics Materials Research & Development team, helping to evaluate new materials and conducting trials to develop new explosive compositions and filling techniques, and also provide materials quality assurance to support production working within the Munitions Division, responsible for ensuring all safety requirements are met when carrying the work on the group.

Key skills required for the Explosive Materials Technician

  • An understanding of scientific principles (chemistry/materials engineering) or engineering (chemical/process).
  • Previous military experience (Ammunition Technician) - Desirable
  • A Level (or equivalent) in chemistry/physics and maths.
  • An ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Office applications as required.
  • An ability to operate complex equipment in line with instruction.
  • Due to the nature of the team's work the candidate must be enthusiastic, possessing excellent communication skills and be able to work under their own initiative.
  • Able to demonstrate that you are a team player, committed to continual improvement whilst also showing a willingness to learn quickly.
  • Any successful candidate would also need to have strong motivational and interpersonal attributes.
  • A keen eye for detail for all safety and quality aspects and a willingness to report concerns.
  • The role would be suited to an applicant with some knowledge and experience of working in an industrial environment and handling hazardous materials.

The role is based in South Wales - commutable from Abergavenny, Ebbw Vale, Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare, Pontypridd, Newport, Caldicot, Usk, Chepstow, Monmouth, Cwmbran, Blackwood, Pontypool and Abertillery with excellent access from Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Cheltenham, Gloucester,
