Power Trading Operator: Global Energy Trading Company

World Leading Global Energy Trading Company has an exciting opportunity for a Power Trading Operator to join their Power Trading Operations team in Central London.

The team actively trades energy related products and services associated with European power, natural gas and environmental products including managing the physical positions created by their growing asset base and counterparties. By combining the market insights and relentless drive for profitability of their trading desks with their established customer relationships and strong experience in sales and procurement and growing portfolio of renewable generation assets, they can develop a strong competitive advantage and deliver solid results. The company are currently trading via exchanges and OTC in most major European markets and across various interconnectors, and manage a growing number of generation and demand points connected to both the Transmission and Distribution systems.

The company trade the equivalent of about 14 million barrels of oil per day - this is made up of crude oil, refined products, chemicals, natural gas, electrical power, biofuels and environmental products. With the skill base and international scope to capitalise on trading opportunities inherent in their asset and market positions around the world, their key trading and marketing operations are based in North and South America, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be involved in the day-to-day management of their power activities, primarily in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain and Italy

This includes the opportunity to manage Real Time exposure as they execute trading strategies across European Power Exchanges.

As their power business is continually evolving and new markets and products are being developed and existing markets extended, the candidate will have the opportunity to execute their commercial strategy through developing power operations.

This requires liaising with grid operators, customers, traders, originators and other business functions to ensure operational risks are understood and effectively managed and new capabilities are developed in a robust and timely manner.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 1-2 years experience in a Power Trading Operator role.
  • Self-motivated, with an aptitude for accurate problem solving in a very time critical environment.
  • Ability to work in a small-integrated team and express ideas in an articulate fashion.
  • Flexible approach to working hours to accommodate CET and market trading.
  • Experience of European power markets.
  • Proficient English a must and fluent German language skills a strong plus, other European language(s) desirable.
  • Experience with GPKE and MABIS software a strong plus
  • Excel and VBA skills desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of operations within Power Distribution Systems desirable but not essential.

This needs combining with a positive attitude and an ability to work within a large, globally dispersed project team in a multi-cultural environment. You also need to be a self-starter, a logical thinker and a quick learner, with strong initiative and excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, able to write clearly and concisely.
