Description

Purpose of the job: To perform electrical and mechanical maintenance within the integrated production team maintenance department.

The multi-skilled craftsman is expected to plan, organise, and control individual tasks assigned to him/her by a supervisor or senior engineer. This will involve communication with relevant staff and supervisors at all stages.

MAJOR CHALLENGES OF THE JOB:
  • Working within a production orientated environment to Good Manufacturing Practice for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (GMP).
  • Maintaining the balance of completing maintenance and repairs with the minimum disruption whilst working safely to current legislation and guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Qualifications Essential:
  • City & Guilds Level 3 in an electrically biased discipline, or City & Guilds Level 3 in a mechanically biased discipline.
  • Desirable British Technical Education Council - Ordinary National Certificate.
Key Specialist Skills Essential:
  • Indentured (or equivalent) craft apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrically biased discipline.
Key Personal Skills Essential:
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • The ability to work either as an individual or as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
  • Willingness to participate in weekend and out of normal working hours overtime.
  • This position is a hands on' role working within the production maintenance group and reporting to the engineering supervisor.
Day to day duties include servicing, maintenance and repair of the following items of plant and equipment:
  • Autoclaves
  • HVAC systems
  • Steam and hydraulic piping systems
  • Pumps, motors and gearboxes
  • Heating ventilation and air conditioning
  • Refrigeration plant
  • Steam and Hot Water Boilers
  • Electrical controls and switchgear
  • Electro-pneumatic controls
  • AC and DC machines
In addition, the position will involve:
  • Electrical fault finding and repairs.
  • Mechanical fault finding and repairs.
  • Participation in a standby rota and reaction to breakdown callouts.
General S H & E Responsibilities:
  • To co-operate with supervisors and managers to achieve a safe and healthy workplace and protect the environment.
  • To take reasonable care of themselves and those who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
  • To follow safe operating instructions for all tasks and equipment.
  • To use the right tools and equipment specified for the task.
  • To use the correct personal protective equipment required.
  • To report any defects or workplace hazards to supervisors or managers immediately.
  • To report all accidents, incidents, and near misses.
