Description

We are seeking an experienced individual to join one of our leading renewable energy clients Offshore Civil Engineering team to provide structural engineering support to various offshore wind farm projects in the UK.

The role is for a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer able to lead or support other engineering team members as required in the resolution of engineering and project risks from investigation through to design, specification and supervision of remedial measures to ensure that the existing structural monopile foundations are maintained to the highest standards.

The suitable candidate will have a proven track record in offshore structural engineering, leading design optimisation of offshore remedial works contracts with due regard for health and safety. Experience in fatigue assessment and offshore corrosion protection systems would be highly desirable. The role will predominantly be office based however full offshore training will be required, and it is expected that some limited offshore site supervision will also be necessary.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Technical supervision of contractors during design, fabrication and installation.
  • Preparation and interpretation of specifications, design and fabrication drawings.
  • Management of consultants or works contractors.
  • Technical audit of fabrication facilities, installation equipment, method statements and offshore works.
  • Ensuring the Contractor meets quality requirements through planning, manufacture, installation to completion.
  • Collation of O&M manuals (Health & Safety File: CDM 2015) for any new remedial solutions.
  • Ensuring the Contractor undertakes appropriate detail design activity and planning for cathodic protection systems and their installation to optimise safety.
  • Fulfilling the role of Principal Designer (CDM 2015) under the direction of project manager or engineering lead as applicable.
  • Regular reporting to the designated project manager or engineering lead on progress in a concise and timely manner.
  • Attendance at the operations site office (or main offices) as required.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • University degree or comparable graduate education in civil or structural engineering.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, able to drive innovative and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively within a multicultural team.
  • Strong coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful.
  • Principal Designer Role under CDM Regulations 2015 and detailed understanding of Health & safety aspects related to offshore design and Installation.
  • Fluent in English speaking/writing.
  • Chartered Engineer Status registered with the Engineering Council preferred.

Experience:
  • Experience in an engineering leadership role in design, fabrication and installation of structures or remedial works within offshore wind, oil & gas or marine industries.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team on major projects.
  • Understanding of the principles of static and dynamic structural analysis, corrosion and cathodic protection.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication and hot works (welding, drilling, grinding etc.)
  • Familiarity with offshore installation, marine operations and heavy lifting.
  • Experience in quality assurance of works projects.
