Medical Advice & Communications Specialist/Leiden, Netherlands/6 months Contract/37 to 58 EUR (Per Hour)

The Role:

The Medical Advice & Communications Specialist will take independent decisions on routine issues and will formulate proposals for non-routine issues. The Therapeutic Area Franchises, of which the Medical Advice and Communications Specialist is a part, is the primary scientific and clinical resource for the anti-TNF products to the Janssen OpCos and their regional and global support teams. Additionally, the franchises interact with and support

Key Opinion Leaders and JBV's commercial partners, MSD and MTPC. The group's main purpose is to help these customers acquire and maintain their expertise in the field of antiTNF drugs. Further, the franchise supports key activities or other Global Medical Affairs functions.

Within the Franchise,the MAC Specialists develop themselves into an internal expert on Remicade/Simponi and competitive products, and will provide scientific support to the Franchise, other parts of Global Medical Affairs and other external and internal partners.

Responsibilities:

1 - Creation of scientific material: research, analyze and translate scientific information into custom-made materials, such as slide kits, literature reviews, congress summaries, posters, abstracts, publications, etc, which support the Franchise's goals. These materials might be either for internal use or for use with Janssen OpCos, its marketing partners or healthcare professionals. Provide literature, news and scientific knowledge to support other departments, such as the JBV group within Medical Affairs Europe, GSM (Global Safety Management), Global Regulatory Affairs and R&D.

2 - Knowledge management: Develop into an expert within the therapeutic area on the scientific information of the company's anti-TNF product(s), and on the delivery channels used to distribute that information (eg 2WIRE, written referrals). Screen literature, press releases, the Internet and other knowledge databases in order to select and distribute relevant materials in relation to the anti-TNF business.

Competitive intelligence: be up-to-date with the scientific and regulatory environment of the competition relevant to the anti-TNF business. Provide support to the Franchise and other customers in creating competitive overviews, slide kits, etc, in alignment with the Franchise objectives.

3 - Project management: lead cross-functional teams (including franchise and other customers) for congresses or other projects and activities (eg development of customized educational or objection handling materials, organizing educational events etc). Represent the department in key committees and teams, eg publication teams, regional teams, etc.

4 - Product training: create product training materials and deliver product training to Janssen OpCos around the world.

5 - MAGNITUDE & COMPLEXITY

The Medical Advice & Communications Specialist must be able to work independently, be self-motivated and have a range of scientific, project management and communication skills to be effective. S/he will need to cope with tight and changing timelines and priorities in order to assist a wide range of customers (KOLs, commercial partners, J&J OpCos, internal departments) from varying cultures and time zones with different needs and organizational. Therefore, the ability of handling unpredictability and prioritizing tasks in a professional manner is a must. In addition, the MAC Specialist will interact with internal and external customers and this therefore requires knowledge of English, various technical skills (including presentation skills) and a general understanding of the company's marketing and healthcare compliance policies. A strong service ethic is essential.

The (regular) Medical Advice & Communications Specialist will organize and perform activities on behalf of other more senior personnel in the department, including delegated project management responsibilities.

The Medical Advice & Communications Specialist will take independent decisions on routine issues and will formulate proposals for non-routine issues.

Additional Information

University (MSc) degree in life science, medicine, pharmacy or comparable field, with 2-5 years industry experience in a medical sciences setting

Fluency in English (both oral and written)

Knowledge of the Medical Affairs and commercial environments

The ability to both work independently and as part of a team

Excellent communication, interpersonal, service and networking skills

Presentation skills

Computer skills including PowerPoint

Relevant working experience in an international team

Experience with scientific project management, translating scientific data into materials for a broad audience, scientific writing, commercial insight
