Description

Our client is a leading provider of connectivity and colocation services across the greater New York metro market. The client is updating an existing facility and optimising capacity to better accommodate growth and expanding business opportunities.

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager with extensive experience in Data Centre design and build out familiar with the complexities of working in the NY Metro area. The Project Manager must have a thorough understand of M&E delivery with specific experience in the Electrical and Cooling systems of a data centre. This is a challenging and large scale program/environment and candidates will need to be able demonstrate experience and successful deliveries in similar positions.

The role we require:-.

Technical Project management, specifically with Data Center Design and build out, including power, cooling, security, CCTV experience, specialising in M&E delivery.

The ideal candidate will have an M&E Engineering background who has made the transition into project management. The Project Manager should be experienced in running large scale projects and able to build and managed detailed project pans.

Role Responsibility

Major responsibilities will include:

  • coordinate several trades responsible for implementing components of the updated design;
  • keeping track of deliverables and time lines;
  • coordinate with all responsible parties including the client, their customers, building facilities and data canter designers;
  • keeping all parties up-to-date with the overall project status, aware of any risks, issues, opportunities and near term deliverables.
  • Planning the milestones, activities, tasks, dependencies, effort, timeline and budget of the work streams
  • Manage risks and their mitigation and maintain a risk management (RAID) log
  • Manage work stream and program issues, their resolution and where necessary their escalation
  • Plan and manage the tasks allocated to all third-party service providers
  • Execute all work stream and program tasks and ensure that all milestones and deliverables are completed to time and approved budget
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the areas of data canter design, build out in the Metro NY area
  • Report the progress of work streams to all program stake holders and at scheduled program, work stream and ad-hoc reviews and meetings

The Ideal Candidate

Required:

  • Extensive Project Management experience with large scale data centre design and build out
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbally
  • Able to produce reports; both detailed and high level
  • The ability to negotiate successful outcomes when universal agreement is not straightforward
  • Most importantly, has a Can do attitude, motivates and spreads positive energy in order build high performance delivery teams.

Desirable:

  • PMI certification or equivalent Project Management certification, education and work experience
  • Capable of describing to us at interview of the complexities of working in the NY Metro area and Data Canter facilities requirements
  • Recent experience of leading a complete data centre re-fit or green field installation
  • Able to technically validate or challenge engineering solutions or deliverables
  • Inspect quality of workmanship
  • Organizational skills, Initiative and communication skills, self-motivated with communication and stakeholder relationship skills
  • A consummate networker, equally comfortable with senior managers and operational teams
  • Need to be strategic, self-motivated and able to initiate and gather information from multiple departments with little direction
  • Ability to demonstrate expertise in project management and planning and process mapping; the ability to demonstrate group presentation, leadership, team building, written and verbal communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyse the functionality of systems and their fit with specifications, and to demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
