Facilities Engineer - Defence

A Facilities Engineer with Defence is required to work on a twelve month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Samlesbury.

This is a 12 month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Facilities Engineer contract role

This role has arisen to support the implementation of the various projects, from major equipment installation, machine refurbishment through to the specification and procurement of new or replacement test support equipment which affects a number of areas. Part of the Manufacturing Engineering Discipline, the Facility Engineers primary objective is to act as project management heading up a multi-disciplined cross-functional team throughout the full investment life cycle, including implementation of new production facilities, refurbishment of existing assets and the re-organisation of manufacturing facilities. This challenging role requires a self-motivated, driven individual with an ability to adapt and perform well within a dynamic team environment.

Key areas of responsibility are as follows:

  • Leading a multi-disciplined project team through a structured, integrated and safety focused investment life cycle, facilitating regular project reviews as part of a robust stakeholder management approach.
  • Validating business needs and determining effective and efficient investment proposals.
  • Compile detailed facility specifications, engage the external market place and lead supplier selection activities.
  • Document and seek approval on fact based investment expenditure applications (business cases).
  • Install, lead acceptance/commissioning activities and manage production handover of new and refurbished facilities on behalf of the operational customer.
  • Develop, design and implement new and improve existing production systems.
  • Management of investment activities from a Project Management context including schedule, cost, opportunities, risk and scope.
  • Provide an intelligent support service within the business through inherent knowledge of local processes and assets coupled with an understanding of the business environment.
  • Effective communication and engagement at all levels within the organisation.

Key skills required for the Facilities Engineer

  • It is a requirement that the job holder has successfully completed a recognised Engineering apprenticeship or hold suitable Engineering qualifications in a manufacturing discipline (equivalent to a HNC or greater).
  • A working understanding/knowledge and application of Project Management principles and techniques is essential. An APM qualification and experience of Life Cycle Management is desirable but not essential.
  • An awareness of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • High self-motivation, setting high standards for both self and others.
  • Good health, safety and environmental knowledge (specific training for the role will be provided).
  • Excellent interpersonal, team working and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and an ability to apply sound, systematic problem solving methodologies to identify, prioritise, communicate and resolve issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (including use of MS Office suite of applications).
  • The ability to work alone, with little or no supervision and prioritise your own workload appropriately is critical to the role.

The role is based in Samlesbury, Lancashire - commutable from Blackpool, Lancaster, Warton, Morecambe, Chorley, Leyland, Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Skipton, Stockport, Manchester, Warrington, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham with excellent access from Liverpool and Leeds.
