Electrical Building Services Engineer - Defence

An Electrical Building Services Engineer with Defence is required to work on a twelve month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Preston.

This is a 12 month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Electrical Building Services Engineer contract role

A Electrical Building Services Engineer is required to join our programmes team, which is part of our Real Estate Solutions Business. The successful candidates will help strengthen the existing Programmes team, with responsibility to undertake mechanical building services activities within a multi discipline design team delivering infrastructure solutions at Air bases, Naval ports, Military installations and infrastructure assets throughout the UK and overseas.

  • You will be responsible for Building services design, both in the UK and overseas, and provide day to day engineering guidance to projects. The role will require travel in the UK and overseas and a flexible and responsive approach is required.
  • Contribute to the effective delivery of projects in accordance with contract technical schedule and budget requirements.
  • Provide expert advice to internal and external clients on equipment selection, design remediation, sustainability, energy and low carbon building designs and systems, reducing carbon footprints and energy efficient design solutions.
  • Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own practices and remain up-to-date with relevant technology.
  • Adoption and promotion of Service Excellence culture.
  • Support team in matters of technical understanding and areas of own expertise. Work within the engineering frameworks set out by engineering managemen Ensuring all statutory, regulatory and customer SHE policies are complied with.

Key skills required for the Mechanical Building Services Engineer

  • Ideally a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer (MIET/MCIBSE)
  • Qualified in electrical or building services engineering or relevant equivalent qualification's or working towards professional registration
  • Sustainability/Energy/Environmental based qualifications will be an advantage
  • City & guilds 17th Edition qualified would be an advantage
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design - inclusive of MV/LV power distribution, general & emergency lighting, airfield ground lighting, fire alarm, CCTV, P.A., lightning protection, data installations, lifts and cranes
  • Extensive experience in electrical building services engineering design with proven customer delivery performance and demonstrable knowledge of associated and contributory domains
  • Experience of undertaking site (detailed, condition, familiarisation) surveys and articulating findings in the form of reports, presentations and meetings
  • Good working experience across project life cycle phases, demonstrating a whole-life approach to engineering.

The role is based in Preston, Lancashire - commutable from Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecambe, Chorley, Leyland, Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Skipton, Stockport, Manchester, Warrington, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham with excellent access from Liverpool and Leeds.
