Description

Major UK Housing Association requires a Service Charge Accountant, to be responsible for the implementation, calculation, administration and reporting of timely and accurate service charges in line with statutory, legal contractual and policy requirement whilst dealing with any enquiries that may arise.

The candidate MUST have Service Charge experience. Not interested in Revenues Officers or Leasehold Officers

Key result areas:

  • Manage the collection and verification of cost data required for the timely and accurate assessment, calculation, calculation and notification of service charges for tenants, leaseholders and freeholders

  • To advise and support our customers in resolving their queries and issues, ensuring that their expectations are managed and proactive resolutions are identified.

  • To develop and maintain relationships with external and internal stakeholders in order to support our customers.

  • To assess clients' needs to ensure effective service delivery.

  • To update and maintain systems/records to ensure that information/data is kept up to date and accurate and that KPI's are met.

  • To ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to so that consistent and standard practice is achieved across the organisation.

  • To ensure the provision of excellent customer service to all stakeholders in order to maximise customer satisfaction.

  • Prepare and ensure timely and accurate calculation and issue of the estimated and actual accounts for fixed and variable service charges to tenants, leaseholders and freeholders in accordance with the tenancy agreement, lease (or transfer) complying with relevant legislation and codes of practice, ensuring cost recovery is maximised.

  • Analyse financial and accounting records to calculate and apply Service Charge costs for tenants ensuring amounts charged are appropriate fair and accurate.

Skills/experience required:

  • Sound knowledge of the calculation and notification of fixed and variable service charges.

  • Sound knowledge and experience of the law and practical application in relation to fixed and variable service charges.

  • Knowledge of accounting systems (preferably SUN) including the ability to interpret invoice and journal documentation.

  • Experience in the administration of reserves (sinking funds) and depreciation.

  • Proven ability to explain financial data to those not familiar with financial processes in both written and verbal context.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines.

  • Demonstrable high levels of customer service even in difficult and challenging circumstances.

  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, at all levels.

  • Experience of representing Landlords in relation to service charge disputes at the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT).

  • Excellent IT skills including intermediate level computer literacy in Microsoft Office Word & Excel.

Qualifications required:

  • Qualified/part qualified accountant or relevant practical experience
