Project Engineer

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the management of engineering projects assigned by the Engineering manager, and ensuring all work undertaken to be within budget, timescale and performance criteria.

The responsibilities of the Project Engineer are to:

  • Provide specialised technical assistance within projects in other areas (chemical, mechanical, electrical/instrumentation, HVAC, packaging etc) as well as their own.
  • Establish the scope of work, timetable and the project objectives in detail.
  • Develop practical engineering designs taking full account of the many competing factors
  • Initiate enquiries, evaluate proposals and collect data for preparation of accurate and realistic estimates and schedules
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications and assist in preparing contract purchase order documents, review tenders and select suppliers/contractors in order to maximise technical and cost effective benefits to the company.
  • Control the expenditure and time schedules for project implementation, maintain up to date project programs and manage the project budget to ensure that it does not exceed the allocated funds and timelines.
  • Ensure that standards, codes of practice and statutory requirements are incorporated into all stages of the project as appropriate such that the company is not subjected to any liabilities.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Direct and supervise contractors in execution of their duties, ensuring good communication, training, GMP and safety compliance.
  • Work with stakeholders of all backgrounds
  • Communicate clearly, interpreting and explaining complex technical aspects to non-technical or non-expert audiences.
  • Review performance of team against agreed plans and results.
  • Be recognised as a key technical resource within own functional area handling several operational projects or support larger strategic projects.
  • Delivered project parts on time, within cost and quality parameters.

Background and experience working in chemical process engineering role is essential.

Industry experience in drug substance and drug product manufacturing of licensed pharmaceuticals is highly desirable; or similarly heavily regulated industry is essential.

Experience of Scoping of Electrical and Instrumentation projects and the managing their installations would be advantageous

A degree or professional qualification in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering; preferably Chartered Engineer, Member of an Engineering Institution.
