Category Manager - Donnington, Leicestershire - 6 months

My client is looking for a Category Manager for a large project based in Donnington, Leicestershire. The role will be full time, however flexible working requests will be considered, and also may require some out of hours working, the client can offer a competitive daily rate.

Role Description

  • The Category Manager will be responsible for identifying category management opportunities and delivering Category Management strategies to ensure optimised financial and operational benefits to the client.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Category Management pipeline, and meeting the contract timelines and strategies.
  • Responsible for the achievement of individual procurement cost down strategies.
  • Responsible for delivering a value plan for each procurement activity.
  • Responsible for delivery and maintenance of all procurement functional standards.
  • Communicating strategies and outcomes both internally and with the wider supply chain.
  • Responsible for delivering significant innovation through the supply chain via the contracting strategies.
  • Responsible for supporting, and leading where required, sourcing activity within the Procurement function.
  • Accountable for ensuring procurement activity meets contracting strategies and optimises savings for the customer whilst ensuring the delivery of compliant tendering processes
  • Non budgetary responsibility for Category Management of spend including Authority SS3 consumables and repairable, workshop spend, and corporate spend.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a commercially focused equivalent role and similar operating model as a category manager
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a commercial procurement environment
  • Degree or 3 years relevant experience
  • Willingness for frequent travel
  • Engineering Background - engineering brain with a commercial aptitude - experience automotive, heavy industry, large manufacturing background required
  • Ability to read plans and to articulate to suppliers
  • Demonstrable ability to undertake complex tasks such as Datamodelling and analysis, executive report writing and strategy creation for suppliers
  • Experience of working for a large commercial organisation within a supply chain function delivering Category Strategies and associated benefits
  • Proven delivery of category management
  • Negotiation strategy delivery and associated benefits

Desirable Skills:

  • SC clearance - can start with BPSS
  • MCIPS 5 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years exposure to public sector contracting.
