SC Cleared User Research Lead - Croydon - 4 months + up to £500 per day Outside IR35 (Ltd Company)

A Lead User Researcher is required to lead the research of user needs for tools of users in police fingerprint bureaus to inform benefits identification and programme decision making on options analysis for bureau project delivery scope and subsequent procurement.

Croydon based, the User Research Lead will work in collaboration with the Lead Business Analyst and lead the research to understand bureaux structures, operation related tasks (to include systems used, tasks undertaken and outputs produced), user roles, purpose and measures for success and:

  • Review user research and business analysis conducted to date (curate current understanding of user needs into an initial repository of insight)
  • Develop a User Research Plan & Approach for further work
  • Carry out qualitative user research with real users to understand pain points and problems.
  • Use this research to add to existing knowledge base in the form of user needs, transcripts, and personas encompassing a day in the life of a user, challenges, goals and needs
  • Create a user journey map derived from qualitative research with real users (include phases, needs, activities, feelings, touchpoints, processes and pain points)
  • Undertake structured task analysis and in partnership with a Business Analyst, create a task model - identifying the key activities of each role, the purpose of each activity, trigger points, flow, users, frequency, duration, output and criticality of output and throughput of work
  • Research the organisational and technical environment in which core activities are conducted and workflow is managed
  • Present and communicate research findings and user needs which will be an input to requirements for procurement and provide a foundation for approaching business change and deployment activities
  • Present and communicate research findings and users needs which will be an input to the Business Analyst led creation of a benefits map which maps user needs to option features, categorised benefits and measures to inform a benefits model and options analysis
  • Collaborate with key Policing Transformation bodies, communicate with the Project Board and Business Design Authority and provide briefings and updates as required for Home Office Biometrics Programme Governance

ESSENTIAL

You'll be an expert user researcher with extensive experience using a variety of methodologies and proven ability to:

  • apply user-centred service design and delivery practices and put users first in a government context
  • choose appropriate methods for different life cycle phases and situations
  • engage the whole multi-disciplinary team with a good research process, and involve teams in analysis to increase consensus and challenge assumptions
  • research diverse audiences to create accessible digital services
  • convince stakeholders to take a user-centred approach, based on evidence
  • understand the wider implications and long-term impact of business issues and activities
  • Security Clearance status

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of working with internal customers and an awareness of their objectives
  • Proven expertise and experience of articulating user needs within the public sector
  • Proven expertise and knowledge of biometric bureau tool capabilities and how they support current operations and can enable business transformation
  • Understanding, expertise and experience of working within Home Office Policing objectives, operations, data, organisational structure, systems and processes
  • Experience of positively engaging and influencing senior stakeholder managers at a strategic level within Home Office Policing
