Senior Engineer (Seats and Scantlings)
A Senior Engineer with Seats and Scantlings experience is required to work on a six-month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Scotstoun.
This is a 6-month contract working for a leading UK defence company.
Overview of the Senior Engineer (Seats and Scantlings) contract role
A Senior Engineer with Seats and Scantlings experience is required to work for our defence client in Scotstoun on their naval vessels. You will be carrying out complex technical analyses and investigations involving the design and calculation of ship scantlings or equipment seatings.
- Produce structural design solutions, supported by calculations, for either ship scantling issues or seat designs as required.
- Liaise with the Detail Design community and equipment owners to unblock issues preventing the conclusion of structural design activities
- Prepare Design Sketches of structural solutions as required
- Peer reviewing of other team member's calculations where required.
Key skills required for the Senior Engineer (Seats and Scantlings)
- Knowledge and competence in ship structural design including the derivation of scantlings and equipment seatings from first principles.
- Sound capability in general structural theory and analysis and its application to ship structures.
- Capable of producing accurate scantling and general structural calculations.
- Ability to assess and check structural drawings.
- Ability to produce appropriate design sketches in AutoCAD.
- Ability to employ MathCad software to undertake calculations.
- Knowledge of general and structural calculation software.
- Some experience in the structural design of frigate-type vessels.
- Some experience in employing shock loads to a structural design.
The role is based at Scotstoun in Glasgow - Commutable from Kilmarnock, Paisley, Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Edinburgh.
