EU Auditor

Location: London

Duration: 12 Months

The post-holder will work as part of a team of auditors; each allocated their own financial audits of EU funded projects to perform. The projects vary from small-funded ones (approx £100k) to large return projects of £15m+.

  • Audits are expected to be completed within six weeks of the commencement of audit fieldwork, and at the time of writing there are currently 47 projects. Failure to do this work can result in £m's of lost revenue for the Home Office. EU Auditor Grade: HEO/HEO Accountant Job Purpose To provide audit and assurance services for the UK Responsible Authority (EU Funding Team) to European Commission standards, and to provide assurances on grant payments made to projects under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). Duties and Responsibilities To plan, perform and conclude financial control procedures using established audit methodology as follows:
  • Draft and agree the planning milestones for each audit.
  • Use analytical review procedures to perform desktop reviews on quarterly claims for funding.
  • For systems audits and transactions audits, liaise with the grant beneficiary and agree visit dates for on-site fieldwork.
  • Select a sample of transactions to audit, in line with the audit methodology.
  • Regularly review plans for all audit work and agreeing any amendments to milestones with the audit reviewer.
  • Perform and conclude allocated audits, using standardised audit procedures to achieve audit quality standards. This includes written reports to the appropriate quality standards.
  • Ensure audit work is recorded using the TeamMate electronic working paper recording system within agreed timescales.
  • Accurately record time spent within TeamMate TEC.
  • Regular communication with account managers and other members of the Responsible Authority.
  • Communication with the beneficiary to suggest improvements to processes and/or financial record-keeping (where applicable).
  • Person Specification The post holder should ideally have experience of a financial or auditing environment and should be studying, or hold a recognised professional accountancy or auditing qualification.

Essential requirements:

  • High quality report production
  • An eye for detail
  • Be polite and personable, and be able to communicate effectively with beneficiaries and other team members
  • A willingness to travel to anywhere within the UK, including overnight stays where appropriate
  • Be self-motivated; to conduct audit assignments on their own or as part of a team

Desirable requirements:

  • Studying for a recognised professional accountancy or auditing qualification, or already hold such a qualification.
  • Experience of a finance environment and audit experience, or previous experience of an investigative nature.
  • Experience or knowledge of EU funding.
  • Knowledge in the use of TeamMate
