Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer

A Mechanical Building Services with Design/Consultancy experience is required to work on a twelve-month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Preston.

This is a 12-month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer contract role

You will undertake mechanical building services activities within a multi discipline design team delivering infrastructure solutions. As a result, there is a requirement to travel as part of this role candidates should be expected to spend time away from home as projects require.

Building services design and design management, both in the UK and overseas, and provide day to day engineering guidance to projects. The role will require travel in the UK and overseas and a flexible and responsive approach is required.

  • Provide effective leadership of multi-disciplined teams on projects.
  • Ensure effective delivery of projects in accordance with contract technical schedule and budget requirements.
  • Provide expert advice to internal and external clients on sustainability, energy and low carbon building designs and systems, reducing carbon footprints and energy efficient design solutions.
  • Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own practices and remain up-to-date with relevant technology.
  • Adoption and promotion of Service Excellence culture.
  • Support team in matters of technical understanding and areas of own expertise.
  • Work within the engineering frameworks set out by engineering management.
  • Responsible for ensuring all statutory, regulatory and customer SHE policies are complied with.

Key skills required for the Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer

  • A thorough understanding of general theories and applications covering a broad knowledge of that area is
  • Chartered Engineer (MCIBSE/MIMechE) or working towards professional registration with significant relevant experience.
  • Typically, Degree qualified in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Sustainability/Energy/Environmental based qualifications will be an advantage.
  • At least 5 years' experience in mechanical building services engineering design and project management with proven customer delivery performance and demonstrable knowledge of associated and contributory domains.
  • Good working experience across project life cycle phases, demonstrating a whole-life approach to engineering
  • Experienced at leading teams of engineers on projects.
  • Experience in customer facing role.
  • Experience of work on military establishments and BAE Systems home markets an advantage.
  • Good organisation, communication skills and report writing skills
  • CAD/Revit an advantage

The role is based in Lancashire - commutable from Blackpool, Preston, Lancaster, Morecambe, Chorley, Leyland, Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Skipton, Stockport, Manchester, Warrington, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham with excellent access from Liverpool and Leeds.
